Pastor Schugger calls for Amnesty for Nnamdi Kanu to calm national tension

Senior Pastor of Grace Revolution International Ministry, Lagos, Pastor (Dr.) Schugger Ezenwa Onyeukwu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use the life imprisonment sentence handed to Nnamdi Kanu as an opportunity to unite the nation and douse rising tensions.

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos today, Pastor Schugger reacted to the judgment delivered by Justice Omotosho, stating that he was not surprised by the court’s decision.

According to him, the gravity of the charges filed against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, ranging from terrorism to treason and other serious allegations, made the outcome predictable.

“I am not surprised that Nnamdi Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment because of the grave charges leveled against him by the Nigerian government,” he said.

“Besides, he dismissed his legal team and chose to defend himself, so an outcome like this was actually expected.”

Pastor Schugger, however, appealed to President Tinubu to intervene by granting Kanu amnesty as a strategic step toward calming national unrest.

“The nation is going through a lot at the moment, especially with the allegations of Christian genocide currently trending. We do not need more issues that will worsen the situation,” he said.

“There are already protests in Imo State because of the judgment. I want to plead with Mr. President to grant Kanu amnesty to unite the nation and address part of the security challenges confronting us.”

He emphasized that national reconciliation and de-escalation should be the government’s priority, especially at a time when the country is experiencing heightened tension on multiple fronts.
