NWC backs Don Norman Obinna, other ADC state Chairmen, pledges support for coalition

African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Working Committee has assured its state chairmen, including Don Norman Obinna, of their full inclusion in the party’s opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC’s efforts to build a strong coalition could play a significant role in shaping the country’s political landscape in the lead-up to the elections.

This assurance was given during a meeting held on Thursday at the Abuja residence of the interim national chairman of the coalition, Senator David Mark.

The meeting brought together the ADC NWC, state chairmen, and selected stakeholders.

The chairman of ADC in Abia State, Don Norman Obinna, was present at the meeting.

On July 2, Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, along with several state chairmen, accused Mark and the coalition’s interim national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, of being imposed on the party and allegedly planning to remove certain state chairmen.

In response, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s interim national spokesperson, emphasised the leadership’s dedication to collaborating with the state chapters after a meeting attended by thirty-seven state chairmen, including the one from the FCT.

“We invited all the state chairmen to reassure them that we have no intention of sidelining them,” Abdullahi said.

“We aim to dispel the rumours suggesting we want to take over the party. Our goal is to work alongside them as partners to strengthen our political party. They will leave Abuja today feeling more confident about their role in this coalition-building process.”

Addressing Kachikwu’s criticisms of the coalition and the new party leadership, Abdullahi clarified, “A presidential candidate is simply a party member, not an officer. We are on solid legal ground. If anyone believes we’ve violated our constitution, we welcome challenges. So far, no ADC member has disagreed with our process.”

Obinna is a notable figure in Nigerian politics, and he has been actively involved in the party’s activities, including a recent landmark political summit in Umuahia, Abia State, where the party announced its adoption as the platform for the coalition’s political resurgence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Journalist turned politician has been involved in political discussions and has expressed opinions on various issues, including governance and economic challenges in Nigeria.

He previously served as a media aide to Senator T.A. Orji, former Governor of Abia State.

As a prominent figure in Abia State politics, Don Norman Obinna continues to play a significant role in shaping the party’s direction and policies..
