NGO honours AIG Moshood Jimoh for professionalism in Ajiran land dispute investigation

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh, has been honoured by the Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHSR) for his professional conduct and ethical leadership in the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in the handling of the Ajiran Community land dispute in Lagos State.

The commendation letter and award were presented to the former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Lagos.

Presenting the award, the President of CHSR, Mr. Felix Omotehinse, praised AIG Jimoh and his team for their dedication, courage and commitment to justice in the investigation of the bloody land dispute in Ajiran Community, which led to the killing of two prominent indigenes, Sherif Salawu and Ademola.

According to the NGO, the police under the leadership of AIG Jimoh demonstrated professionalism and resilience by ensuring that those allegedly responsible for the killings and other criminal activities connected to the land dispute were arrested and brought to justice.

Mr. Omotehinse noted that the intervention of the police helped restore confidence among residents of the community and reinforced public trust in the ability of law enforcement agencies to tackle crimes and protect lives and property.

Receiving the award in the presence of senior police officers and journalists, AIG Moshood Jimoh expressed appreciation to the NGO for recognising the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force.

He assured Nigerians that the police would continue to work tirelessly to ensure that criminals are brought to justice, stressing that the Force remains committed to protecting lives and maintaining law and order across the country.

The AIG also called on members of the public to support the police by providing timely and credible information on criminal activities within their communities.

“We will continue to do our best to ensure that criminals have no hiding place. The cooperation of citizens is very important because security is a collective responsibility. We urge Nigerians to continue to provide useful information that will assist the police in combating crime,” he said.

AIG Jimoh further commended the leadership of CHSR for finding it worthy to appreciate the efforts of the police, noting that it is not common for non-governmental organisations to publicly recognise the sacrifices and dedication of law enforcement officers.

He particularly thanked Mr. Felix Omotehinse and the CHSR team for their support and encouragement, adding that such recognition would motivate officers and men of the Force to remain committed to their constitutional duties.

The police chief also appreciated the NGO for maintaining a close watch on the activities of the police and acknowledging the positive impact of effective policing in society.

The award is seen as another recognition of AIG Moshood Jimoh’s contributions to crime fighting and justice administration, particularly his efforts in addressing the lingering land dispute and related criminal activities in Ajiran Community, Lagos State.
