New era of regional connectivity: ECOWAS’ Abidjan-Lagos Highway Project gets thumbs up from royal fathers, community leaders, youths

Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has received widespread commendation from royal fathers, community leaders, and youths for its efforts in developing the Abidjan-Lagos highway.

Speaking at the two-day stakeholders townhall meeting in Agbara and sensitization rally at the Seme-Krake joint Border post, royal fathers, community leaders, and youths expressed their support for the project, praising ECOWAS for its efforts in promoting regional integration and economic development.

They assured ECOWAS of their commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the project.

In her speech, Federal Controller, Federal Ministry of Works, Lagos, Engr.  Olukorede Kesha, emphasized the importance of community engagement and cooperation.

She noted that the project, which is set to commence soon, aimed to improve regional connectivity and facilitate economic integration.

Engr. Kesha explained that the project’s design has taken into consideration the concerns of all stakeholders, including residents and business owners.

She assured that the government has allocated funds for compensation and relocation, and urged stakeholders to cooperate with the project team to minimize disruption.

“The Abidjan-Lagos highway project is a testament to ECOWAS’ commitment to regional integration and economic development.

“With the support of royal fathers, community leaders, and youths, the project is expected to have a positive impact on the region, promoting economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards,” she stressed.

In his remarks, Project Director, Communication/Visibility Consultant Dr. David Nwedu, provided an update on the Abidjan-Lagos highway project, assuring stakeholders that the project is progressing as planned.

Dr. Nwedu explained that the project has undergone various stages, including design, which has taken into consideration the needs of Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, and other stakeholders.

He noted that the project’s design is nearly complete and will soon be presented to the Council of Ministers for approval.

“The Abidjan-Lagos highway project aimed to improve regional connectivity and facilitate economic integration. The project includes a six-lane highway, with an additional two lanes for local traffic, as well as industrial layouts and special development initiatives to promote businesses and industries along the corridor”, he explained.

Dr. Nwedu emphasized that the project is not just about building a road, but also about creating job opportunities, promoting economic growth, and improving the standard of living for citizens in the region
