Grassroots Groups feel overlooked in APC appointments despite key role in Tinubu’s victory

Consolidated APC Grassroots Movement (CAGraM) has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to consider including grassroots leaders in his political appointments.

The group, comprising numerous support groups that worked tirelessly to secure Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 general elections, feels marginalized and undervalued despite their significant contributions.

According to the National Vice Chairman (Southwest), CAGraM , Com. Kolawole Jamiu Okedara , these support groups played a crucial role in mobilizing citizens, rallying political support, and advancing the objectives of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They worked selflessly, dedicating time, resources, and effort to spread the Renewed Hope agenda and secure votes across Nigeria.

However, many leaders and members of these groups have been left out of key appointments, leading to disillusionment and a sense of being overlooked.

The group’s national vice chairman, Okedara, emphasized that recognizing the contributions of these grassroots movements is not only a matter of fairness but also a strategic necessity for the APC’s continued success.

He highlighted that empowering these groups will strengthen the party’s influence, mobilize the political base, and ensure loyalty in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

“CAGraM played a pivotal role in Tinubu’s victory, mobilizing citizens and spreading the Renewed Hope agenda. Despite our efforts, many support group leaders and members feel overlooked in the distribution of political appointments.

” Recognizing grassroots contributions is crucial for the APC’s success in 2027 and will ensure continued loyalty and support. Empowering grassroots groups will strengthen the party’s influence and mobilize the political base necessary for future victories.

“The inclusion of grassroots leaders in political appointments would send a powerful message to the party’s base, reaffirming their value in the political process. It would also demonstrate President Tinubu’s commitment to valuing the contributions of those who worked tirelessly to secure his victory.

“As the APC looks ahead to the 2027 general elections, recognizing and empowering grassroots movements will be essential for sustaining momentum and ensuring continued success”, he explained.

In Nigeria’s political landscape, he stressed that grassroots movements have been instrumental in shaping electoral outcomes.

“Research has shown that inclusive practices within political parties can lead to more representative and accountable governance. By prioritizing grassroots leaders in appointments, the APC can foster a more inclusive and dynamic political environment”, he stated.
