CP Orutugu charges new constables on discipline, professionalism at Oji River Police College

In a renewed push to strengthen security architecture and sustain proactive policing in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rigorous training and operational preparedness as critical pillars of effective law enforcement.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the CP made this known, while addressing newly trained constables who were formally handed over for combat and armed drills training at the Police College, Oji River.

He stressed that modern policing demands far more than numerical strength, underscoring discipline, tactical competence, emotional intelligence, and strict adherence to the rule of law as essential attributes of every officer.

Addressing the trainees, CP Orutugu charged them to approach the specialised combat and armed drills training with utmost seriousness, noting that the evolving security landscape requires officers who are physically fit, mentally alert, professionally grounded, and guided by the principles of accountability and respect for human rights.

According to him, the training is designed to equip the officers with the necessary tactical skills to respond decisively and lawfully to emerging threats, including violent crimes, kidnapping, cultism, and other criminal activities that threaten public peace.

He emphasised that operational readiness remains non-negotiable in the collective effort to safeguard lives and property across the state.

The Commissioner further reassured residents of Anambra of the Command’s unwavering determination to sustain safety in all communities.

He explained that the deployment of well-trained personnel would significantly reinforce ongoing security operations and enhance the capacity of the Command to confront criminal elements effectively.

CP Orutugu also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for his continued support of security initiatives in the state.

He noted that the training exercise aligns with the broader reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force, which prioritises capacity building, professionalism, and improved operational effectiveness nationwide.

The development marks another strategic step by the Anambra State Police Command in reinforcing its manpower base and consolidating proactive policing efforts aimed at maintaining law and order.

The Command reiterated its resolve to build a disciplined, combat-ready, and community-oriented police force capable of meeting contemporary security challenges while upholding democratic values and human rights principles.
