2027: Jonathan have capacity to reengineer Nigeria’s growth – Group

Convener, Goodluck Nigeria, Emma Umerah, has described former President Goodluck Jonathan as the leader best suited to stabilise and reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and development.

Umerah made the assertion in a press statement, where he emphasised that Jonathan possesses the calm temperament and inclusive leadership style required to unite the country amid its current socio-economic and security challenges.

According to him, Nigeria is in dire need of a leader who can ease tensions, rebuild trust across diverse groups, and chart a new course for national progress.

He stressed that Jonathan’s personality and governance approach make him uniquely qualified to handle the nation’s complexities.

“He possesses that stabilising mien needed at this point in time to bring Nigeria together, calm frayed nerves and ensure that different and varied interests converge to chart a new roadmap for the nation’s development,” Umerah stated.

He further described the former president as a grassroots politician and a visionary leader whose peaceful disposition and collaborative governance style distinguished his time in office.

Highlighting Jonathan’s legacy, Umerah pointed to the convening of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference as a major demonstration of his ability to foster unity and dialogue among Nigerians from different backgrounds.

“To show that Goodluck Jonathan is a man of peace who works collaboratively for national development, he convened the National Constitutional Conference, where leaders of thought from across the country gathered to deliberate and find common ground so that every part of Nigeria would feel included,” he said.

Umerah argued that the recommendations from the conference, if fully implemented by successive administrations, could have helped Nigeria avoid many of its present challenges, including economic instability and insecurity.

“That working document, if his successors had implemented it, the country would not have found itself in the present quagmire characterised by economic and security challenges,” he added.

The Goodluck Nigeria convener, therefore, called on citizens, civil society organisations, and community leaders to rally support for Jonathan ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He maintained that the former president remains the most credible and suitable candidate capable of restoring stability, promoting unity, and driving inclusive development across the country.

Umerah concluded by reiterating that Nigeria’s progress at this critical juncture depends on leadership that prioritises peace, dialogue, and national cohesion—qualities he believes Jonathan embodies.
