Kebbi Police confirm casualties in Alwasa crisis, launch manhunt for suspects

Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed multiple casualties following a violent clash in Alwasa community in Argungu Local Government Area, and announced the launch of a manhunt to apprehend those responsible for the deadly incident.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the situation is now under control due to the swift deployment of police personnel and reinforcement teams who are currently maintaining law and order in the affected community.

The incident, which occurred on March 23, 2026, reportedly involved a confrontation among some youths, leading to injuries. One of the victims later died on March 24 while receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Argungu.

The death subsequently triggered a reprisal attack, resulting in additional fatalities and heightened tension in the area.

In response, the police command said it has launched a comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the violence, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend all those involved.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, strongly condemned the incident and warned that anyone found engaging in unlawful or violent acts would face the full weight of the law.

He also appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, stressing that security agencies are fully committed to protecting lives and property.

The police command added that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary, while urging members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to ensure lasting peace in the community.
