Mirror Newspaper celebrates Nwanguma’s leadership in rule of law, civil liberties

Executive Director, Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), Comrade Okechukwu Nwanguma, has been conferred with The Mirror Newspaper Excellence Award for Heroes of Our Time in recognition of his remarkable contributions to human rights advocacy, the rule of law, and public accountability in Nigeria.

The award, instituted by The Mirror Newspaper, celebrates individuals whose courage, integrity, and commitment to justice have strengthened democratic governance and protected civil liberties.

Comrade Nwanguma’s leadership at RULAAC has been pivotal in advancing reforms in policing, justice delivery, and human rights protection.

His relentless advocacy, research, and engagement with stakeholders have improved transparency, enhanced institutional accountability, and inspired citizens to actively participate in democratic governance.

In announcing the award, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Mirror Newspaper, Stanley Ihedigbo, praised Comrade Nwanguma for embodying “the ideals of excellence, leadership, courage, and service” that the award seeks to recognize.

The award will be presented at a grand ceremony during the Mirror Newspaper National Conference and Award Ceremony on April 23, 2026, at the LCCI Conference & Exhibition Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

The conferment of this prestigious award underscores Comrade Nwanguma’s role as a transformative figure in Nigerian civil society, whose dedication continues to inspire confidence in democratic institutions and empower citizens to demand transparency, fairness, and good governance.

Comrade Nwanguma joins a distinguished cohort of national leaders, human rights advocates, and changemakers whose work has left an indelible mark on society, confirming him as a true hero of our time.
