Women’s involvement crucial in anti-corruption crusade, says Olukoyede

Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has tasked women across the country to show greater commitment to the fight against economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption.

He made the call in Abuja on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the “You Against Crime Festival,” organised by You Against Crime International, YACI.

According to the Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, the commission boss who was represented by the Head, Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE11 Aisha Muhammed, noted that mothers and women are capable of playing crucial roles in the fight against cybercrime and urged them to join forces with the EFCC in the fight.

“Mothers and women play crucial roles in everything that we do, and they can do the same in the fight against corruption and cybercrime. We are talking about culture; we have to take it back to parenting. The EFCC is always talking about parenting and also catching them young. The Commission has Integrity Clubs in primary and secondary schools. We have the Zero Tolerance Club in universities and other tertiary institutions to catch them young.

“We have the Women Against Corruption because of how important mothers and women are in society and in everything we are doing. Parenting is the most important part of our culture. Parents should ask questions, parents should know the friends of their children, and parents should keep an eye on their children. Don’t leave your children to society,” he said.

The president and organizer of the event, Tayo Florunsho, stated that the purpose of the programme was to proffer solutions to the various crimes bedeviling the society and to work collectively in finding solutions to them.

“We are here to collectively work together to see how students and youths can know what to add to the services of security agencies. We can’t do it on our own; we are here to dialogue on how to proffer a solution and not complain any longer,” he said. He called on all stakeholders to join the fight against corruption and financial crimes.

In her contributions, the Mandate Secretary, Women Affairs, Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Adebayo Benjamin Laniyi, called for a collective action in the fight against financial crimes.
