United Methodist Church (UMC) condemns burning of it’s logo, telling lies against them

United Methodist Church has condemned those who are burning it’s logo, telling lies against the church and making false accusations about individual in the Nigeria Episcopal Area and those working with the Path Forward Covenant.
According to statement made available from the Southern and Northeastern Nigerian Conferences held yesterday , under the leadership of Bishop John Wesley Yohanna and support of Bishop John Schol to talk with the delegates about the Path Forward Covenant.
They also condemned any violence, destruction of property and the disparaging of anyone and rather seek the reconciliation and peace outlined in the Path Forward Covenant.
They said that the leaders of the UMC group are prepared to meet with the mediator to find ways to work together to honor Jesus Christ and advance the mission and ministry of The United Methodist Church.
They noted that due to a few disrupters at Monday’s Special Annual Conference for the Northern and Central Conference, and the police had to be called for the Special Sessions.
“But many of the delegates to the conferences still came because of their commitment to healing and reconciliation as outlined in the Path Forward Covenant. The two conferences moved forward because the work is too important and must not be delayed. The delegates present affirmed the following.
“Moving forward with the Path Forward Covenant, and organizing the Path Forward Team. Maintain the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman and remain part of the United Methodist Church Worldwide.
“Through the Path Forward Covenant, review the actions of Annual conferences held between January 2021 and June 1 2024 except ordinations, to ensure everything was done in order.
“We call on the West Africa Central Conference, West Africa Committee on Episcopacy and the Council of Bishop to assign an interim bishop in the Nigeria Episcopal Area”, they stated.
About 711 delegates were in attendance. Detail will be release be the Resolutions Committee shortly.
