Police sensitise Anambra students on cultism, drugs, cybercrime threats

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community policing and enhance crime prevention across Anambra State, the Anambra State Police Command has intensified its school safety advocacy through direct engagement with students and school authorities.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in line with this initiative, the Command organised an interactive sensitisation session at Sacred Heart Academy, Ifite Ogwari, where students and school administrators were educated on key security issues affecting young people and learning environments.

Speaking during the session, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Oruru Harrison, PSC, delivered a comprehensive lecture focusing on personal security awareness and the dangers associated with social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, bullying, cybercrime, and other criminal behaviours that could endanger students and disrupt academic activities.

ACP Harrison stressed the need for students to remain vigilant at all times, maintain discipline, and avoid activities capable of jeopardising their future.

He also encouraged them to promptly report suspicious movements, strange behaviours, or security threats within and around their school environment to the appropriate authorities.

The senior police officer further emphasised the importance of building trust and maintaining positive relationships between students, schools, and law enforcement agencies.

He reassured the students of the Police Command’s readiness and commitment to respond swiftly to distress calls and security concerns affecting educational institutions across the state.

In addition, the Police Command called on school administrators to strengthen internal security structures, including access control, visitor monitoring, and emergency response protocols.

Schools were also urged to sustain regular collaboration with security agencies to proactively identify and address potential threats before they escalate.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring that schools across the state remain safe and conducive for teaching and learning.

The Command noted that protecting educational institutions is critical to building a secure society and fostering academic excellence among young people.

The engagement forms part of broader security outreach programmes being implemented by the Command to promote public safety awareness and community participation in crime prevention.
