Police arrest 82 suspects in Kano, solve 25 major cases within 14 days

Kano Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, arrested 82 suspects in connection with 25 major cases, recovered firearms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen properties.

Speaking at the press conference by State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, 60 suspects have been charged to court for prosecution while 22 suspects are under investigation.

He warned that the Command will spare no effort in ensuring the protection of lives and properties of all Kano State residents.

He noted that all forms of crimes are reducing geometrically in the State, and it’s importance of the implementation of robust community policing initiatives, intelligence-led policing, and targeted clearance operations in combating crimes and ensuring a safe environment for all which is in line with the directives and vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

” The implementation of these strategies has yielded positive results as they led to the crackdown on criminal networks, such as curtailing remnants of thuggery (Daba) activities within Kano Metropolis, dismantling of Armed Robbery syndicates along Jigawa-Kano and Bauchi-Kano borders and decimating of Kidnapping incidents along Kaduna-Kano and Katsina-Kano borders

“The suspects are 13 armed robbers, 2 kidnappers, 12 drug dealers, 2 motorcycle thieves, 5 fraudsters, 13 thieves and 35 thugs (Yan Daba). Also, recovered, one AK-47 Rifle and four locally made guns , 13 cutlasses and 16 knives, 3 motorcycles, and one tricycle. Others are 24 parcels and 175 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, 50 sachets of diazepam tablets, 42 sachets of tramadol tablets, 307 sachets of pregabalin tablets, 2 bottles of suck & die, 10 sliding windows and 10 mobile phones.

“These achievements demonstrated the commitment and dedication of the Command to maintaining law and order and our strategies are yielding the desired results. Therefore, the Command will continue to strengthen its multifaceted strategies that revolve around community policing, strategic communication in sensitizing the public on security matters, intelligence-led policing, as well as targeted clearance operations that have effectively criminal networks’ operations, especially along border Local Government Areas of the State,” he explained.

He commanded Kano State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, particularly the generous donation of 78 patrol motor vehicles to this Command.

“This gesture will significantly enhance our operational capacity and response times, enabling us to better serve the people of Kano State. I also thanked the good people of Kano State for their cooperation and trust in the Police Command.

” We appreciate the collective efforts of the members of the public and other security agencies, we urge everyone to continue cooperating with the Police by providing valuable information and support in ensuring our overall safety and security. The CP further explained that on 1st November, a report was received from a resident of Chiranchi Quarters, Kano that some group of thugs attacked one Habibu Mustapha Baura Along Chiranchi Quarters with dangerous weapons.

“On receipt of the report, a team of operatives swung into action and arrested, Sadiq Halliru Alias Aljan, 28, Usman Bashir, 26, and Ahmed Lawal Alias Kulubi, 26, all of Galadanchi Quarters, Kano. During the investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime with the case under investigation.

“Following a report of armed robbery on the same day, a resident of Gandun Albasa Quarters, Kano, a team of Anti-Daba Squad led by SP Hussaini Gimba was raised and detailed to the scene. Consequently, a suspect, one Mukhtar Hassan, 30, of Gandun Albasa Quarters, Kano was arrested. One life-threatening weapon was recovered from him, and the case is under investigation.

” On 2nd November, a team of Anti-Dada Squad led by SP Hussaini Gimba conducted a raid at a black spot in Ja’in Quarters Kano that led to the arrest of Abdurrahman Isah, 67, of civic centre, Salisu Babangida, 18, of Brigade Quarters, Kamalu Abubakar,19 of Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters, and Adamu Abdullahi, 19, of Koki Quarters, Kano. Two parcels and one wrap of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them. The case is under investigation.

“On 2nd November, a report was received from a good Samaritan that one Yasir Garba, of Darerawa Quarters attacked one Abdulfatah Jafar with a sharp knife and robbed his handset. On receipt of the report, a team of operatives was detailed to the scene and arrested the suspect. The mobile phone and the knife were recovered. Investigation revealed that the suspect is wanted on the Command’s list. The case is under investigation.

” On the same day, a distress call was received from a resident of State Road opposite GTC Kano that unknown thieves trespassed into his house. On receipt of the report, a team of Anti-Dada Squad led by SP Hussaini Gimba, while on routine patrol, were raised and rushed to the scene where one Hafiz Umar, 30, of Darmanawa Quarters, Kano, was arrested. During the investigation, the suspect confessed to have criminally trespassed into the house with intent to steal. The case is under investigation.

“On 10th November, a team of policemen while on round-the-clock visibility patrol within Miltara Quarters, Kano arrested one Ibrahim Ismail, 23, of same address in possession of one sharp knife. Investigation revealed that the suspect belonged to a syndicate of thugs terrorizing the area. The case has been charged to court for prosecution,” he further explained.

According to the CP, on 9th November, a distress call was received from good Samaritan that one Tijjani Umar, 29, of Brigade Quarters, Kano attacked one Sumayya Auwal, of Zango Quarters, Kano with a knife and robbed her mobile phone.

“On receipt of the report, a team of detectives swung into action and arrested the suspect with the help of a Good Samaritan. The knife and the mobile phone were recovered with the investigation ongoing. The same day, a distress call was received from a Good Samaritan that some unknown hoodlums attacked one Mansur Yusuf, of Tukuntawa Quarters, Kano at Dorayi Karshen Waya. The hoodlums inflicted injury on him and robbed his mobile phone. On receipt of the report, a team of Anti-Dada led by SP Hussaini Gimba was immediately dispatched to the scene.

” Consequently, 3 of the hoodlums, Nasiru Bobo, Ismail Abubakar, and Usman Danfodio, all of Dorayi Quarters, Kano with recovered from them Dangerous weapons and intoxicants. The suspects confessed to the crime, and the investigation is ongoing. Also on 3rd November, a team of Anti-Dada Squad led by Sp Hussaini Gimba while on intelligence-led raid arrested one Mukhtar Hassan, 30, and Abba Garba, 30, all of Gaida Quarters, Kano. On spot search, one life-threatening weapon (Gariyo) was recovered in their possession. The suspect confessed to the crime, with ongoing investigation.

“On 3rd November, a team of Anti-Dada Squad led by SP Hussaini Gimba while on intelligence-led raid arrested 4 drug dealers; Abdurrahman Isah, 67, Salisu Babangida, 18, Kamalu Abubakar, 19, and Adam Abdullahi,19, all of Kano Metropolis. On spot search, two 2 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them. The suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.

“On 09th November, a team of surveillance patrol conducted a raid at a black spot located at Yakasai Bola Quarters, Kano that led to the arrest of one Abubakar Umar Usman, 20, of the same address in possession of 38 pieces of diazepam tablets, 25 pieces of pregabalin tablets and 99 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The case has been charged to court for prosecution, ” he stated.

The state police boss noted that on 09th November a team of police operatives in collaboration with vigilante members of Danshoshiya Village, Kwanar Dangora arrested two suspected kidnappers; one Haruna Abdulsalam, and Mandi Sun, while trying to kidnap one Haruna Abubakar, 35,  of same Village.

“The suspects were lynched by aggrieved members of the public and were rushed to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed them dead while receiving treatment.

“On  the same 9th November, a team of surveillance patrol in conjunction with local vigilante members arrested one Adahala Nuhu,  of Agiri Village in possession of one Bajaj motorcycle, red in color. During the investigation, the suspect confessed to having stolen the motorcycle from one Nazamu Abdu,  of Kafin Dalawa Village in Tudun Wada LGA, Kano. The suspect has been charged to court for prosecution.

” Another distress call was received from a Good Samaritan that some thieves stole away a goat and ran away in a tricycle. On receipt of the report, a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene and arrested the suspects, Abdullahi Nasiru, 19, and Abba Ali, 21, while their operational tricycle was set ablaze by a mob before the arrival of the police. The suspects confessed to the crime and have been charged to court for prosecution.

” Day before then,  a team of policemen, while on the intelligence-led raid at Bachirawa arrested one Abdul-Aziz Auwal, 25 , old on the same address. Investigation revealed that the suspect is on the wanted list of thugs terrorizing Bachirawa and the neighboring area. One long sharp knife was recovered from him, with the investigation ongoing.

” On another incident, a team of Dragon Squad led by SP Ibrahim Ringim while on routine patrol responded to a distress call and arrested one Halifa Abdullahi, of Mandawari Quarters, Kano who stabbed one Musbahu, Dareji Quarters, Kano with a knife. The victim was rushed to Hospital for treatment and the knife was also recovered. The case is under investigation.

“On 6th November , a team of Dragon Squad led by SP Ibrahim Ringim while on intelligence-led operation arrested , Safiyanu Lawal, 25; Uzairu Salisu, 27, and  Badamasi Bala, 27,  all of Bichi LGA, Kano in possession of 75 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 307 piece of Pregabalin drug, 17 sachets of Diazepam drug, 42 sachets of Tramadol tablets, and two  bottles of liquid substance suspected to be suck and die. The suspects confessed to the crime, with the ongoing investigation, ” the state police boss further explained.

On  9th November, he narrated that a team of Anti-Kidnapping Squad led by SP Muhammad Auwal arrested one Muhammad Rashidu, of Kudan LGA, Kaduna State.

“The suspects contacted one Sheikh,  of Rogo LGA, Kano, via his GSM number and demanded money or he would be kidnapped. The suspect confessed to the crime, with ongoing investigation. On 6th November , a team of policemen with the support of Unguwa Lalle security committee arrested ; Abubakar Sani,18, Usman Muhammad, 18,  Nasiru Sani, 17, Ibrahim Bashir, 18,  Muhammad Muhammad, 18, and Umar Abubakar, 20, all of Unguwar Lalle Quarters, Kano. The suspects specialized in trespassing into houses and removing windows including other valuable items. The suspects confessed to the crime and the exhibits were recovered. The suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.

“One Muhammad Usman, 21, of Sharifai Quarters, Kano, was arrested with the help of some orphans whom he duped in a cleverly orchestrated scam. The suspect approaches village heads, posting as a representative of a non-government organization (NGO) that supports orphans, and requests their assistance in canvassing vulnerable orphans. During the investigation, seven 7 mobile phones were recovered. The suspect confessed to the crime with the case under investigation.

“A team of policemen while on routine patrol in collaboration with vigilante group members at Kwanar Ganduje intercepted and arrested one Murtala Umar, 21; off Zango Quarters, Kano riding a motorcycle companion black in color with Reg no: KKU 47 QB suspected to be stolen. During the investigation, the suspects confessed to having stolen the motorcycle, and other exhibits recovered from him including a master key and a long sharp knife. The case is under investigation.

“Another  team of surveillance patrol while on routine patrol in collaboration with vigilante group members at Filin Mahaha arrested one Aliyu Murtala, 18 , of Sharada Quarters in possession of iron rods suspected to be vandalized and stolen. During the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime, and the exhibits were recovered. The suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.

“One Ibrahim Isyaku, 24,  Fagge Quarters, Kano in possession of one long threatening weapon and a sharp knife. The case is under investigation. From 1st to 14th November 2024, intelligence-led-raids were conducted at various black spots within the Kano Metropolis that led to the arrest of  29 thugs. The suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.

” Based on credible information received, a team of operatives arrested;  Bayero Shuaibu, AKA Bera, 20, of Fanteki Village, Gabasawa LGA,  Sa’idu Muhammad, AKA Gati, 20 , and  Aliyu Umar, 25, and one other, all of Majawa Village, Warawa LGA, Kano. During the investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime, and one AK-47 rifle, one  local AK-47 rifle, and two Dane guns were recovered from them. The case is under investigation” , he stated.
