Pastor Schugger commends Nigerians on ‘Real-Time’ results demand, warns against protests

Founder of Grace Revolution International Ministry, Lagos, Pastor Schugger Ezenwa Onyeukwu (PhD), has commended Nigerians for demanding mandatory real-time transmission of election results ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the move as a progressive step toward strengthening democracy in the country.

However, the cleric cautioned against resorting to protests should the demand face resistance, warning that such actions could degenerate into chaos and violence, thereby undermining the very objective of electoral reforms.

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, Pastor Schugger said the call for mandatory electronic transmission of election results reflects citizens’ growing desire to experience the true dividends of democracy.

“As a Nigerian who is concerned about the happenings in the country, it is a good demand. I crave for us to feel the impact of democracy. I desire leadership that is duly elected and reflects the true choice of the people. It is through mandatory real-time transmission of election results that we can attain this,” he said.

The cleric noted that while civic engagement remains vital in a democratic society, protests could be hijacked by unscrupulous elements, leading to unrest and ultimately discrediting the cause.

According to him, there are constitutional mechanisms available to citizens to effect change without destabilizing the polity.

“I urge Nigerians to utilize the recall process to effect change. In a democratic system, it is more effective to remove underperforming representatives through recall rather than protests, which can be hijacked,” he advised.

Pastor Schugger emphasized that citizens must hold their elected officials accountable by actively engaging with their constituencies and monitoring their performance in office.

“Citizens should hold their elected officials accountable by making their voices heard through their constituencies. If lawmakers fail to represent the people’s interests, a mass recall should be considered. By doing so, Nigerians can ensure their elected representatives truly serve the people,” he added.

He further encouraged political awareness and peaceful participation in governance, stressing that democracy thrives when citizens understand and effectively use the legal instruments available to them.

Pastor Schugger concluded by reiterating that while the demand for electoral transparency is legitimate and commendable, sustaining democratic gains requires patience, lawful engagement, and responsible civic action.
