Ogun East APC moves for unity, picks Abiodun as consensus Senatorial candidate

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday received a major political boost as leaders, delegates, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District formally endorsed him as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 Senate election.

The endorsement, described by party leaders as a strategic move aimed at preserving unity and strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, attracted prominent political figures and influential stakeholders from across Ogun East.

Among those present at the gathering were the APC’s consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun, and Gbenga Kaka, as well as Ogun State APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, Deputy Chairman Chief James Dina, Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District Lekan Mustapha, and Ogun East APC Chairman Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.

Presenting Governor Abiodun to party stakeholders, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun disclosed that APC members across Ogun East had unanimously agreed to adopt the governor as the party’s consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.

According to him, the decision was reached after wide consultations among party leaders and stakeholders across the district, stressing that the move would further consolidate unity within the APC and position the party strongly for future electoral victories.

Also speaking, Senator Lekan Mustapha noted that the endorsement reflected the collective determination of Ogun East leaders to ensure quality and experienced representation at the National Assembly.

He recalled that leaders and stakeholders of Ogun East had earlier met on April 20, where they unanimously resolved to adopt Governor Abiodun as the preferred APC candidate for the Senate seat.

He explained that Tuesday’s gathering was convened to formally communicate the decision to the governor and the state leadership of the party.

In his remarks, Ogun East APC Chairman, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin, formally handed Governor Abiodun over to the Ogun State APC leadership and urged the state executives to forward his name to the national secretariat of the APC as the party’s flag bearer for Ogun East Senatorial District.

Responding to the endorsement, Governor Abiodun expressed deep appreciation to leaders, delegates, and stakeholders of Ogun East for the confidence reposed in him, describing the consensus arrangement as a reflection of political maturity, unity, and commitment to the progress of Ogun State.

“I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming support and confidence. I will not betray the trust bestowed on me by the leadership and people of Ogun East,” the governor stated.

Governor Abiodun pledged that if elected to represent Ogun East in the Senate, he would provide purposeful and people-oriented representation capable of attracting more democratic dividends and developmental projects to the district.

The governor also appreciated Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented support to Ogun State since the commencement of his administration.

He further commended leaders of Ogun East for prioritizing unity, cohesion, and stability within the APC, noting that the adoption of a consensus candidate would strengthen the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the APC and promised to continue working closely with stakeholders across Ogun East to sustain the developmental strides already recorded in the state.

He equally thanked Senator Adeola, former deputy governors, party executives, elders, and party stakeholders for their solidarity and unwavering support, assuring them that the APC would remain united and victorious in Ogun State.
