Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Enugu East in the 2027 general election, Dr Nweke Kingsley Chizoba, popularly known as Odaa Opuo, has decried what he described as poor infrastructural development and the neglect of constituents in the senatorial district.

Nweke expressed his displeasure during a courtesy visit by the Obedient Peoples Movement (OPM), a political support group, to his residence in Enugu, where he criticised previous representatives of the district for allegedly failing to provide basic social amenities for the people.

The PDP candidate lamented what he described as a disconnect between political leaders and their constituents, arguing that senators should complement the efforts of state governments in delivering development to their people.

He said, “I must commend my predecessors who have represented us in the Senate, but they failed to provide basic social amenities for our people. They hid under the influence of the state government and neglected the senatorial zone.”

Describing Enugu East as a strategic district, Nweke noted that it occupies a central position in the state and hosts key government institutions, including the state capital and Government House.

“Enugu East is the centre of Enugu State. It harbours the state capital, the Government House, and hosts people from all over the country. Therefore, any senator representing the zone must not neglect his duties but must complement the efforts of the state government,” he said.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of market women and youths across the district through small-business grants and empowerment programmes.

Earlier, the leader of the Obedient Peoples Movement, Comrade Destiny Chukwuemeka, congratulated Nweke on his emergence as the PDP’s senatorial candidate for the 2027 elections.

Chukwuemeka said Nigeria needed greater youth participation in politics, adding that young people should take up leadership responsibilities and contribute to changing the country’s political landscape.

He explained that the group’s decision to identify with Nweke was informed by its assessment of his record and philanthropic activities.

“We are here to show solidarity. We don’t just support any candidate; we consider your pedigree and antecedents before choosing you. You are a philanthropist who has touched thousands of lives. That is why we are here to galvanise support for you so that you will continue the good work you have started,” Chukwuemeka said.

He further pledged to mobilise support for Nweke ahead of the 2027 general election.

The group was accompanied on the visit by Hon. Anene Ernest Onwa.
