Nigerian Correctional Service has come out to refute a misleading report claiming that Ayomide Adeleye, an inmate awaiting trial, is not in prison.

According to the Public Relations Officer
Nigerian Correctional Service, DCC Umar Abubakar, Adeleye, 23, with Custody Number S-1995/24, was remanded at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos, on September 26, 2024, for kidnapping and murder.

Adeleye was produced in court on December 16, 2024, and the presiding magistrate ordered that he remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecution.

The Service clarified that there was another inmate with a similar name who was admitted to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos, on March 6, 2024, for theft. However, this inmate was discharged on April 4, 2024.

The Nigerian Correctional Service assured the public that Adeleye is still in their custody, contrary to the misleading report.

The Service advised media reporters to verify information through appropriate channels before publication to avoid spreading falsehood.
