MWUN representative, Maduabuchukwu, stands out at ITF regional conference in Tanzania

Comrade Olumba Maduabuchukwu, representing the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), distinguished himself at the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Regional Conference in Tanzania, earning commendation for his insightful contributions, articulate presentations, and strong representation of Nigerian maritime workers on the global stage.

According to the Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, those present at the conference in Tanzania included Comrade Mohamed Kaneh from Sierra Leone; Comrade Sahada Al Hassan from Ghana; and Comrade Victoria Michongwo from Malawi, among others.

The International Transport Workers’ Federation workshop was held at the Ramada Wyndham Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

It was reported that among all the participants of the Maritime Regional Young Workers’ Workshop, the sole representative of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria emerged in flying colours at the end of the conference evaluation.

Upon Olumba’s return from Dar es Salaam, he was warmly received by the leadership of the Union, under the aegis of the President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, who noted that young comrades in the Union should be exposed to such training opportunities, as this is essential to building a stronger Union for the next generation of leaders.

He further explained that similar training opportunities for young comrades will continue, describing it as an exercise that has come to stay in the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria.

The trained maritime administrator, labour activist, and veteran sailor emphasized that the only way to leave a lasting legacy is by engaging young comrades in the Union through strategic courses, training, workshops, and conferences such as the recently concluded programme in Tanzania.

Comrade Olumba Maduabuchukwu expressed gratitude to the Union’s leadership for the opportunity to attend the workshop in Tanzania, describing the conference as an eye-opener that exposed him to new knowledge, in addition to allowing him to meet other intelligent young African comrades making significant impact in their respective unions across the continent.

Comrade Maduabuchukwu also commended the facilitators, describing them as exceptional. He stressed that the facilitators who led the workshop sessions were excellent, instructive, intelligent, educative, and morally sound.

Young Comrade Charles from MWUN, Nigeria, added that he learned a great deal from the facilitators, noting that the lessons gained from the conference would remain indelible in his lifetime and would significantly enhance his development as a maritime labour leader.
