Misleading video alert: Imo Police urge calm, dismiss Okigwe incident

Imo State Police Command has debunked a viral video circulating online, which purportedly shows vehicles being set ablaze by individuals affiliated with Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) enforcing an unlawful sit-at-home order in Okigwe on October 21, 2024.

According to the Public Relations Officer, Imo Police Command, ASP Okoye Henry,  the video is misleading and depicts an incident that occurred in 2022.

The police have warned that the recirculation of this video is a deliberate attempt to spread fear and anxiety in the state.

Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma has assured residents of Imo, particularly those in Okigwe, to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear.

The Command emphasized that spreading misinformation and fake news is harmful and punishable by law, and those found guilty will be prosecuted.

The police are working with other security agencies to combat misinformation and ensure a safe environment for all.

Residents are advised to verify information before sharing and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
