Industry leaders share insights on evolution of marketing at MarkHack 4.0,

Marketing landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by rapid technological advancements, shifting consumer behaviors, and the increasing importance of data-driven decision-making.

From leveraging emotional connections and cultural relevance to harnessing the power of technology and data analytics, marketers are exploring new ways to engage and captivate their audiences.

Speaking at the MarkHack 4.0, themed “Experience ignited; Fueling the consumer journey”, the keynote speaker, Chief Executive Officer, West Africa At Godrej, Mr. Kayode Oladapo, highlighted the evolution of marketing and innovation in the industry.

He said: ” The rapid advancement of technology has transformed the way brands interact with consumers. With the rise of mobile phones, consumers’ expectations and behaviors have shifted significantly. Successful brands have built strong emotional connections with consumers, going beyond just product features.

“MTN’s “Everywhere You Go” Campaign is a powerful example of a brand creating an emotional connection with consumers through effective marketing. Understanding consumer behaviour and preferences is crucial for effective marketing. Consumers’ emotional connections with brands drive loyalty and commitment.

“Brands have leveraged technology to generate demand and drive sales. Tesco’s Brilliant Execution is another notable example of a brand using technology to create an impactful marketing campaign. Marketers need to develop robust analytics capabilities to stay ahead of the curve. Technology will continue to play a critical role in shaping the future of marketing,” he emphasized.

In his presentation, Group Head, .Brand Tronsfematicns and Digital Marketing, Bank of Industry Limited, Mr. Jide Sipe, stressed that in today’s fast-paced business landscape, connecting with people is more crucial than ever.

“As marketers, we often focus on selling products or services, but we forget that our ultimate goal is to resonate with our target audience. To achieve this, we need to tell stories that inspire social impact, evoke emotions, and infuse cultural relevance.

“When I was working at GT Bank, we embarked on a mission to transform the brand by creating platforms that connected with people. We launched initiatives like Food and Drink and Fashion exhibitions, which became incredibly popular. We also created Indani TV, a platform that showcased content beyond banking, making it relatable to a younger audience.

“The key takeaway from our experience is that brands need to humanize themselves to build a stronger connection with their audience. This involves understanding the people you’re selling to, leveraging cultural elements, and aligning your brand identity and purpose with the story you’re telling.

“Moreover, it’s essential to consider the emotional connections people make with your brand. What do people feel about the story you’re telling? Is there a connection? How does it make them feel?” he explained.

He further said that ultimately, it’s not just about what you sell; it’s about what you stand for.

” As brands, we need to define our value proposition and purpose and ensure that our messaging aligns with our values. By doing so, we can create a lasting impact on our audience and build a loyal customer base. So, what can brands learn from this? They must learn that it’s not just what you say, but what you stand for that people can relate to,” he explained.

In his remarks, Co-Convener and Founder, Brand Communicator, Mr. Joshua Ajay, said that the marketing and media landscape is constantly shifting, driven by the emergence of new technologies and strategies.
