Impact of Gov. Umo Eno on Oron Federal Constituency

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has started a significant initiative that will see him traverse all the federal constituencies within the state.

This endeavour serves multiple purposes: firstly, to evaluate the performance of his administration over the past 22 months in each of this Federal Constituency; secondly, to engage directly with the citizens, listening to their concerns, understanding the challenges they face and the developmental projects they desire.

This feedback will be instrumental in shaping the 2026 budget, which is envisioned as a “people’s budget,” reflecting the needs and aspirations of the populace.

Moreover, Governor Umo Eno intends to leverage these interactions to empower various segments of the community, including farmers, traders, entrepreneurs, transporters, skilled workers, elders, and youth.

This approach showcases his avowed mission to run a people-centric government that prioritizes the welfare and development of its citizens.

The inaugural town hall meeting took place in the Abak-Etim Ekpo-Ika Federal Constituency, where a notable impact was made.

620 individuals from Abak, Etim Ekpo, Ika Federal Constituency, returned home with business grants, ranging from N150,000 to N5,000,000.

These beneficiaries, encompassing farmers, small business proprietors, and entrepreneurs, were honoured at the Abak Township Stadium during the inauguration of the Federal Constituencies.

Among the recipients, six individuals were awarded a substantial grant of five million naira each, while 178 farmers benefitted from the ARISE Farmers Grant, receiving N500,000 each, to foster agricultural advancement in the State

More so, 442 other recipients from diverse sectors were granted amounts varying from N150,000 to N700,000, tailored to meet their specific business requirements.

Furthermore, 198 individuals engaged in various trades, including vulcanizing, tailoring, hairdressing, and welding, among others, were earmarked for equipment support, thereby ensuring that local enterprises are equipped with the necessary tools to enhance their operations and boost productivity.

A total of 11 female transporters were the fortunate recipients of minibusses, while several elders were graciously bestowed with the gift of cars.

Consequently, the second point of the town hall meeting is scheduled to occur in the Oron federal constituency, where Governor Umo Eno has demonstrated commendable performance, and his contributions are palpably felt across every sector of the economy.

Governor Umo Eno has made significant strides in the development of the Oron Federal Constituency since assuming office.

His administration has focused on critical areas such as infrastructure, education, health, Housing for the homeless and maritime development, which are essential for the socioeconomic growth of the State.

The road infrastructure are, one of the most notable achievements of Governor Umo Eno is the enhancement of road infrastructure within Oron Federal Constituency.

The governor has commissioned several key road projects aimed at improving connectivity and accessibility in the Area.

Commissioned road project

1. 2.9 km Urueoffong-Utuku-Ibotong Road: This project has significantly improved transportation for residents and businesses in the area.

Ongoing road projects

Dualization of 14.5 km Airport Road – Nsit Atai – Okipedi Road in Okobo (Neither Atai/Okobo local government areas);, construction of 11 km Atabong Road with Jetty at the Beach in Okobo Local Government Area; construction of 2.1 km Ukpong Street in Oron metropolis; construction of 2.1 km Effiong Essang Street in Oron metropolis; dualization of the 13.5 km Okopedi-Oron Road. This major project along the East-West Road (Phase II) includes a 30-meter bridge
(Okobo/Oron local government Areas ) and dualization of 13.6 km Unyenge-Universal Energy Road. This road leads to the Ibom Deep Seaport and features two bridges with spans of 30m and 45m, along with a spur to Affi-Uda Village in the Mbo Local Government Area,

Scorecard in Education
Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to education is evident in his administration’s efforts to enhance educational facilities in the State

In the health sector, Governor Umo Eno has prioritized the establishment of healthcare facilities to improve access to medical services for the residents of Oron Federal Constituency and mostly in rural communities.

There is ongoing Construction of Three Primary Health Centres in Oron, Mbo, and Okobo Local Government Areas.

Governor Umo Eno has also made significant investments in the maritime sector, recognizing its potential for economic development and job creation.

Maritime Initiatives:
Flagging Off of the Construction of a Modern Terminal Building; development of State-of-the-Art Storage Facilities Powered by Solar Energy; Construction of New Cargo and Ferry Jetties; Implementation of Shoreline and Embankment Protection Measures; Establishment of a Modern Motor Park for Jetty Users; Launch of a Marine Joint Taskforce Outpost; development of a Dedicated Car and Lorry Park for Marine Users; Construction of Fuel Dump and Workshop for Boat Repairs.

External Works of Fencing and a Gatehouse, construction of Access Roads to the Motor Park, Beach, and Jetties.

ARISE HOMES

In a commendable effort to uplift the lives of the most vulnerable members of our society, Governor Umo Eno has launched the Arise Homes initiative.

This program aims to provide shelter, support, and empowerment to widows, widowers, and the homeless in the Oron Federal Constituency and Akwa Ibom State at large.

A total of 27 families have benefited from this initiative in Oron Federal Constituency, receiving well-furnished two-bedroom bungalows equipped with a portable water system powered by solar energy.

In addition to housing, each beneficiary has been granted financial support of five hundred thousand Naira (₦500,000) to start a business of their choice, enabling them to achieve financial independence and stability.

Beneficiaries from Mbo local government area: Mrs. Stella Effiong Edet- Urokem Uda; Mrs. Rita Abakede – Akai Ebughu; Mr. Asuquo Ekanem – Ikot Itak, Eyokor; Mrs. Art Ediete- Uko Akpan-Ewang; Chief Edet Okon Ukonteghe – Uda; Mrs. Iquo Edet Etim – Etisong Ebughu.

Beneficiaries from Udung Uko local government area; Mr. Anthony Okon Bassey – Udung Esio; Mrs. Comfort Ananatang – Edikor Eyiba; Mrs. Arit Asuquo Peter – Edikor Eyobiosin; Chief Edet Etim – Uboro Ingang and Mrs. Nkoyo Edet -Eyo Ukponung.

Beneficiaries from Okobo local government area: Mr. Sunday Tom- Mboukpo Udung; Mrs. Nkoyo Sunday Edet – Esie Uweme; Mr. Bassey Sunday Okon- Uweme 2 (a blind man); Arit Sunday Willie – Otueke Offi and Bassey Okon Ime – Nung Ukana – Ekeya.

Beneficiaries from Ureaffong Uruko local government area; Mrs. Ikwo Sunday Emmanuel- Eyoyekip; Mrs. Eno Ufe- Eyolor; Mrs. Comfort Sunday Sam- Ukuda; Mrs. Mary Edet – Elei and Mma Effiong Bassey – Uboukpo Eyekan.

Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Homes initiative is a significant step towards providing hope and support to those in need within the Oron Federal Constituency.

By offering both shelter and financial assistance, this programme empowers beneficiaries to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities.

The initiative reflects the Governor’s commitment to social welfare and the upliftment of the vulnerable, ensuring that no one is left behind

RAAMP Projects

In collaboration with the World Bank, and African Development Bank, Governor Umo Eno is also spearheading the construction of a 12.5 km road linking Okobo to Oron Local Government through the farm road. This project aims to enhance agricultural productivity and improve access to markets.

More so, the governor is developing a brand new Atabong Beach Market, which will feature modern amenities such as a motor park for lorries and trucks, cold storage facilities, an abattoir, lock-up shops, an open pavilion market, offices for businesses, a security post for marine security, a jetty for local fishermen, a clinic, and a park for private and commercial vehicles.

This comprehensive market development is set to boost local commerce and provide job opportunities for residents.

Governor Umo Eno’s scorecard in Oron Federal Constituency is proof of his vision to develop the area.

Through strategic investments in infrastructure, education, health, commerce, Housing and maritime sectors, his administration is laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity.

The ongoing projects and initiatives reflect a forward-thinking approach that prioritizes the needs of the people and positions Akwa Ibom State for a brighter future.

As these projects come to fruition, the positive impact on the lives of the residents of Oron Federal Constituency will undoubtedly be profound and lasting.
