IGP Egbetokun have presented cheques worth over N15.60bn to families of 5,225 deceased police officers

Inspector -General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed that he has  presented life insurance cheques worth N15.60bn to next of kins and families of 5.225 deceased police personnel who died in the line of duty in seven occasions.

According to the Force Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP noted:”With this seventh presentation, we have presented cheques amounting to N15,606,138,376.26k} to 5.225 family members and next of kin of deceased officers.To the families of our fallen officers gathered here today, while we know we cannot fill the void left by the loss of your loved ones, we hope that these cheques will provide some Support as you face the challenges ahead.

“As we honour our fallen heroes, we also renew our commitment to the safety and well-being of the officers who continue to serve. The current management of the Force remains steadfast in its dedication to prioritizing the welfare  of our personnel. I would like to take this opportunity to commend the hardworking officers of the Force Insurance Unit for their continuous efforts in ensuring that claims are settled promptly, despite the challenges they face. I also want to express my appreciation to the insurance companies for their cooperation and support, which have helped make today’s event possible,” he further said.

“This reflects our commitment to easing the burden on the families of our fallen colleagues. These disbursement covers payments for insurance policies for the years 2018/2019, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024. The policies include the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident Insurance, the lnspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme, and the Group Life Assurance Death Benefit Arrears for the uninsured period of2021/2022.

“This is part of our commitment to the welfare of the families oI our deceased officers. the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme were created to provide
welfare support and financial succour to the families of our deceased officers, While we know that no amount of money can replace the loss of a loved one, these schemes aim to offer some relief and help the families cope with their grief and the  challenges they face.

“Policing a dynamic society like ours is quite demanding. It requires courage, resilience, and dedication. Our officers bravely face danger every day, often putting their own safety at risk, and in some cases, sacrificing their lives for the safety of the community. Today’s event honours our departed officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.The least we can do for the families they left behind, is to support and care for them, assuring them that their loved ones’ sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he admonished.

He further noted that the Force had presented cheques totalling N9,851,847,889,88 to 3,077 families and next-of-kin of their  departed colleagues at six separate presentation ceremonies between July 2023  June 2024.

He commended President Bola Ahmned Tinubu,, for prioritizing police welfare.

“His dedication to approving the timely release of premiums for the Nigeria Police Force Insurance policies is truly commendable”, he stated.
