FENRED’s Executive Director takes new role in PWVP coalition

Executive Director of the Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD), Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, has been elected as the Southeast Zonal Coordinator of Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Nigeria.

The development marks a significant recognition of Comrade Nwafor’s commitment to environmental justice, resource governance, transparency, and accountability in the extractive industries.

According to a statement signed by the Head, Governance and Extractive, FENRAD, Emmanuel Ugochukwu, as the new Southeast Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Nwafor will be responsible for coordinating advocacy, policy engagement, capacity building, and grassroots mobilization among civil society organizations in the Southeast geopolitical zone.

His leadership is expected to deepen the coalition’s impact in promoting open and accountable natural resource management across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

Comrade Nwafor brings with him over a decade of active civic engagement, leading FENRAD in promoting environmental rights, anti-corruption campaigns, climate action, and sustainable development goals (SDGs).

His election is not only a personal milestone but also an institutional endorsement of FENRAD’s growing role in extractive sector governance and civic transparency.

FENRAD expressed its deepest gratitude to the leadership and members of the PWYP Nigeria coalition for their confidence in Comrade Nwafor and reiterated its commitment to continue working collaboratively towards promoting openness, citizens’ participation, and justice in the extractive industries.

They urged all stakeholders, community leaders, the media, and civil society actors in the Southeast to rally behind Comrade Nwafor in his new role, as he champions the values of PWYP and drives inclusive change for resource-rich communities.
