Enugu Community under attack: Two killed, several injured in latest assault

A sense of fear and uncertainty has gripped the Okpanku community in Enugu State, as unknown persons have invaded the area, wreaking havoc and terrorizing residents of Uhuezeoke village for over a month.
The assailants, whose identities and motives remain unclear, have been perpetrating acts of violence and intimidation, leaving the community in a state of panic.
The assailants arrived at Ihuezeoke in Okpanku community, Aninri Local Government of Enugu, and started shooting sporadically at the people.
The attack occurred in the afternoon when people had gone to their various businesses.
An eyes witness who gave an account of the attack told our reporter that the assailants, numbering three person,s, came by a hijack-bike through Uburu road in Ebonyi State.
According to the witness, “The killers came through one of the roads that links Uhuezeoke and Uburu community and attacked the villagers. After killing two persons, they left immediately by their motorcycle”
A young girl who was said to have gone to Uhuezeoke to visit her grandmother was among the people shot by the assailants.
The victims were rushed to Okpanku Cottage Hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed them dead before moving their bodies to the mortuary.
A commercial motorcycle rider who conveyed the girl narrowly escaped death.
It would be recalled that Uhuezeoke village has been under attack since 11 December 2024, when a woman identified as Nwonye Bridget was also shot dead at her rice farm.
