CBN quells rumours, affirms banking system’s resilience

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a reassuring statement regarding the stability of the Nigerian banking sector.

In response to certain publications and social media reports containing misleading information about a regulated financial institution, the CBN has categorically stated that the sector remains resilient, safe, and sound.

The CBN emphasized that all regulated institutions, including the one referenced in the reports, are held to stringent regulatory requirements, and there is no cause for concern regarding the safety of depositors’ funds.

The apex bank affirmed its commitment to monitoring all financial institutions under its regulatory purview and maintaining robust frameworks for early warning signals and risk-based supervision.

The CBN urged the public to disregard sensational or unverified claims and rely solely on official channels for information about the financial system. The bank remains dedicated to fostering a secure banking environment where depositors can be fully confident in the safety of their funds.

In the statement signed by Ag. Director, Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi Ali, the CBN reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the financial interests of all Nigerians and stakeholders in the financial system.

The bank assured the public that it will continue to monitor and adapt strategies to protect the integrity of the financial system.
