Akoli Imenyi, leader, Ugochukwu Okpara, bags Mirror Newspaper Excellence Award

Chairman, Akoli Imenyi Development Association (AIDA), Lagos State Branch, Mr. Ugochukwu Victor Okpara, has been named a recipient of The Mirror Newspaper Excellence Award for Heroes of Our Time, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to grassroots development, community leadership, and the promotion of unity among members of the Akoli Imenyi community.

In a formal letter dated February 10, 2026, and signed by the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Mirror Newspaper, Stanley Ihedigbo, the organisation announced that Okpara emerged as one of the distinguished honourees following careful evaluation by its Editorial Board and independent assessors.

According to the organisers, the award was instituted to celebrate individuals whose selfless service, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to societal advancement have made a significant impact within their communities and beyond.

The letter noted that Okpara’s leadership as Chairman of the Akoli Imenyi Development Association, Lagos State Branch, has played a pivotal role in strengthening unity among members, promoting cultural identity, and driving collective development initiatives within the association.

Under his stewardship, the association has reportedly witnessed enhanced community engagement, welfare initiatives, and collaborative programmes aimed at improving the well-being of members and fostering a sense of belonging among the Akoli Imenyi people residing in Lagos.

The Mirror Newspaper stated that Okpara’s dedication to community representation, organisational leadership, and service to humanity distinguished him as a worthy recipient of the honour.

“Your dedication to grassroots development, community representation, and service to humanity distinguishes you as a true hero of our time,” the letter stated, adding that the recognition aligns with the ideals of leadership, service, and community impact which the award seeks to promote.

The organisers further disclosed that preparations are underway for a grand ceremony where Okpara and other distinguished personalities from different sectors will be formally honoured.

The award presentation is scheduled to hold on April 23, 2026, at the LCCI Conference and Exhibition Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The event is expected to attract prominent figures from the public and private sectors, community leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders who have contributed to national and community development.

By recognising individuals like Okpara, The Mirror Newspaper said it hopes to inspire more citizens to embrace leadership, service, and community engagement for the advancement of society.

The newspaper also congratulated the Akoli Imenyi leader for what it described as a well-deserved recognition and applauded his enduring commitment to community development and unity.
