In a significant development, the Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled its local government chairpersons, pending a crucial meeting with coalition leaders to finalize the party’s structure.
The party has also made membership registration forms available to the local government chairpersons and coordinators, instructing them to distribute these forms to the party’s 184 ward chairpersons for the immediate registration and documentation of both existing and prospective members.
During a press conference in Umuahia on Saturday, after a meeting with the party’s local government chairpersons, secretaries, as well as women and youth leaders, the state chairman, Don Norman Obinna, stated: “Our decision was prompted by numerous inquiries from the public who are interested in joining the ADC coalition. This coalition aims to address issues such as hunger, insecurity, poverty, and the perceived incompetence of the President Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.”
Mr. Obinna added, “As you know, the ongoing online registration caused our national website to crash last month. The Abia ADC is implementing manual ward registration to complement the ongoing online process, ensuring that people living in rural communities, who lack access to phones and the internet, are not disenfranchised.”
However, Mr. Obinna withheld the names of the ADC Abia State coalition leaders, stating that they had agreed to remain anonymous until they officially declare their affiliation with the ADC.
He urged the public to direct all correspondence to the state secretary, Pastor Uche Ndom, at 0803 059 2140 or at 2 Macaulay Street, Umuahia, pending the unveiling of the party’s new state-of-the-art secretariat in Abia State, which aligns with the ADC’s status as the largest political party in Nigeria.
