Onigbongbo Council Security gets boost as X3M Ideas donates 50 Motorola Radios

Security operations in Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have received a major communication boost following the donation of 50 Motorola walkie-talkies by X3M Ideas to the council’s Security Marshals.

The communication equipment was formally presented to the Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Honourable Moyosore Adebanjo, at the council secretariat on Monday, August 31, 2026.

The intervention, according to X3M Ideas, is designed to strengthen the operational effectiveness of security personnel across the community by providing them with reliable communication tools for coordination, intelligence sharing and rapid response to security incidents.

The donation forms part of the agency’s 2026 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and reinforces its longstanding commitment to supporting communities where it operates.

With security personnel often required to respond quickly to emergencies and incidents occurring at different locations, the availability of dedicated communication devices is expected to improve coordination among the marshals and enable them to relay information more efficiently.

The agency said the initiative was based on the understanding that effective security goes beyond the deployment of personnel and requires the right tools to enable those personnel to work together effectively.

Speaking on the intervention, Group Chief Executive Officer of X3M Ideas, Steve Babaeko, said the agency considers corporate social responsibility an obligation to the communities around its operations rather than an avenue for publicity.

“Nobody can force a company to be responsible. You choose it,” Babaeko said.

He explained that the decision to focus on security this year was informed by the need to identify practical areas where the company could make a meaningful contribution to the community.

“We are corporate citizens, and no government anywhere fixes everything by itself. So, every year we ask one question. Where can we step in and make things a little better? This year the answer was security,” he said.

Babaeko added that providing the marshals with the necessary communication equipment would ultimately benefit residents and businesses within Onigbongbo.

“Give the marshals the tools to talk to one another, and you make life safer for everybody in Onigbongbo. That is worth doing,” he stated.

The X3M Ideas CEO said the company’s commitment to community development was not a recent initiative, noting that its CSR activities began from the early days of the agency, even before it had made significant profits.

“We started in our very first year, before there was any real profit to speak of, because this is just who we are. Fourteen years on, that has not changed,” Babaeko said.

He stressed that the company would continue to identify areas where its resources and expertise could produce tangible benefits for communities.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the council, Adebanjo expressed appreciation to X3M Ideas for supporting the LCDA’s efforts to improve community security.

The council chairman described the donation as timely, noting that effective communication was essential to the performance of security personnel operating across different locations.

“These radios came at the right time, and we are grateful,” Adebanjo said.

He explained that the effectiveness of security marshals was closely linked to their ability to communicate promptly and coordinate their activities during security operations.

“Our marshals are only as effective as their ability to communicate and respond, and fifty reliable handsets across our teams is exactly what they needed,” he stated.

Adebanjo also commended X3M Ideas for choosing to invest in the safety of the community, describing the intervention as an example of how public-private partnerships could contribute to improved security at the grassroots.

“When a company chooses to invest in the safety of a community it works in, everybody benefits,” he said.

The donation also represents another chapter in X3M Ideas’ 14-year tradition of community-focused CSR initiatives, with the agency having previously undertaken interventions in education, technology and youth development across Lagos State.

Over the years, the company has invested financial resources, professional expertise and other forms of support in initiatives designed to improve opportunities for young people and strengthen community development.

Among its notable interventions was the construction and stocking of a library at Ikeja Senior High School in the GRA area of Ikeja.

The agency has also constructed classroom blocks, renovated school facilities and supplied computers to schools as part of its education-focused interventions.

In the area of technology and digital skills, X3M Ideas has implemented its X3M Tech Training Programme, through which pupils of Muritala Ajadi Community Grammar School were trained in website development, product design and writing.

The programme was designed to expose young students to practical digital skills and prepare them for opportunities in the rapidly expanding technology and creative economy.

The agency further rewarded the best-performing participants with laptops and internet access to enable them to continue developing the skills acquired during the training.

The company said its approach to CSR was centred on interventions capable of producing practical and sustainable benefits rather than initiatives undertaken merely for visibility.

The latest donation of communication equipment, therefore, represents a shift in focus for the company’s 2026 CSR programme towards community safety and security.

For Onigbongbo LCDA, the provision of 50 walkie-talkies is expected to enhance communication between security teams, facilitate faster transmission of information and strengthen the council’s capacity to respond to incidents across its communities.

The intervention also highlights the potential role of private-sector organisations in complementing government efforts in the areas of security and community development.

As security remains a major concern for communities and businesses across Lagos, partnerships that provide grassroots security personnel with equipment, training, and other operational support could contribute to more effective community-based security systems.
