A tragic accident at the NYSC Bus-Stop in Igando has claimed the life of a female worshipper of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Church.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the victim was fatally struck by a Mercedes-Benz C-300 while using a designated pedestrian corridor.

According to the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the incident occurred as the woman was on her way to attend a church service, marking a sorrowful start to what should have been a day of worship.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the circumstances leading to the collision are still under investigation, but it is clear that the driver fled the scene, leaving the victim fatally injured.

LASTMA officers stationed along the Igando corridor responded swiftly to distress alerts.

They cordoned off the accident site to prevent secondary collisions and manage vehicular flow, working in close coordination with the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division.

The vehicle involved was subsequently secured and removed from the carriageway.

The accident sent shockwaves through the MFM Church community. News of the tragedy reached the church during service, where the victim’s husband was already among congregants.

Overcome with grief, he, alongside other church members, proceeded to the scene to convey the remains for the necessary rites.

Speaking on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound condolences to the bereaved family and the entire church community.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding human life, enforcing traffic regulations, and promoting pedestrian safety across Lagos.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, obey speed limits, and respect pedestrian rights, stressing that reckless driving endangers lives and undermines public safety.

He also noted that the ongoing police investigation would guide further actions, including appropriate prosecutorial measures against the hit-and-run driver.

The Lagos State government, through LASTMA, remains committed to ensuring that traffic laws are strictly enforced to prevent such heart-wrenching incidents in the future.

This tragic accident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety, vigilance, and civic responsibility.

Pedestrians, in particular, remain vulnerable, and adherence to traffic laws by drivers is critical to preventing loss of life.
