Reimagining AkwaCross Xmas: Students unity picnic 2025 unites youth in Ghana

Students from Akwa Ibom and Cross River States Nigerian, converged in Accra, Ghana, on December 26, 2025, for the Students Unity Picnic 2025, under the “themed “Reimagining the AkwaCross Xmas Experience in Ghana.”

The event, held in Accra, was designed as an inclusive platform that blends cultural celebration, youth leadership dialogue, entertainment and cross-border collaboration.

Organised by the Akwacross Community Students in Ghana, in collaboration with the Nigeria High Commission in Ghana and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the picnic seeks to strengthen unity among Ghanaian students, Nigerian students in Ghana, African diaspora youth and international students.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, the President of the group, Hon. Prince Emmanuel Brown, described the Students Unity Picnic as more than a social gathering, noting that it is a youth-driven movement aimed at promoting peace, leadership, innovation and sustainable development across the continent.

“Ghana has emerged as a thriving hub for tertiary education, cultural exchange and youth-led transformation. With a growing population of Ghanaian, Nigerian, diaspora and international students, there is a strong need for platforms that promote unity, mutual understanding and collaboration,” he stated.

The Chairman of the event, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chericoco Sons Global Ltd And Chericoco Bar and Restaurant Ltd, Accra Ghana, Honorable Samuel Anyaibe, commended the organiser and assured of his support.

The Students Unity Picnic 2025 aligned with key global and continental development frameworks, including the United Nations Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union Agenda 2063, ECOWAS Vision 2050, and Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Vision under President John Dramani Mahama.

Participants at the event included Ghanaian tertiary students, Nigerian students studying in Ghana, students from other African countries, African diaspora youth, non-African international students, youth leaders, civil society organisations, diplomats, private sector partners and media organisations.
