Bishop of Lagos North Diocese, Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), Rt. Rev. Gboyega Ohu has emphasized the importance of sacrificial love and compromise in building a strong and lasting marriage.

Speaking at the opening address at the ministerial session of the 14th Annual Synod 2025 of Lagos North Diocese, Bishop Ohu, urged couples to prioritize their relationships and work towards creating a harmonious union.

According to Bishop Ohu, a successful marriage requires couples to “die” to their ideas, preferences, and ways of life.

Citing Ephesians 5:25, Bishop Ohu emphasized that husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the church, giving themselves up for her.

He noted that marriage has its gains and pains, and love comes with a price tag.

Bishop Ohu stressed that peaceful marriages are built on the foundation of compromise, endurance, and the willingness to let go of one’s interests.

He encouraged couples to focus on changing themselves rather than trying to change their partner, as this can create a positive impact on the relationship.

Bishop Ohu also emphasized the importance of prayer in building a strong marriage.

He further noted that prayer can help couples win over each other’s love and affection and that it is essential for building a strong foundation in marriage.

Bishop Ohu’s message was a call to action for couples to prioritize their relationships and work towards building strong, lasting unions.

He further encouraged couples to trust in God’s guidance and protection, and to seek His wisdom in their marriages.

In a thought-provoking message, Bishop Ohu explained the importance of living a purposeful life, discovering secrets to success, and embracing criticism.

According to him, life is about becoming a better person each day, and every decision we make should contribute to our growth and development.

“Understand what you’re pursuing in life and describe your focus in a sentence. Discover the secrets to success in your field, and work towards achieving your goals. Success is often traceable to a discovered secret. Instead of criticizing others, find out what they know that you don’t, and use that knowledge to improve. Consider how your actions affect others and strive to be a blessing. Unless we live to bless others, continuous existence will be a liability. Whatever you do should bring glory to God. Discard anything that doesn’t align with this principle,” he further explained.

Bishop Ohu also emphasized the importance of embracing criticism.

According to him, critics can be God-sent, pointing out faults and weaknesses that we may not notice.

He encouraged individuals to use genuine criticism to improve, but not to waste time trying to please everyone.

To achieve success, Bishop Ohu recommended regular evaluation of oneself.

” This involves analyzing feedback from others and our observations, and making adjustments wisely,” he stressed.
