Uniting for a cause: FAWA annual meeting raises funds for new multipurpose hall

In a powerful celebration of women’s empowerment, the Federated Abakaliki Women Association (FAWA) culminated its annual activities with a grand finale meeting that doubled as a fundraising event for a multipurpose hall.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including government officials, community leaders, and supporters of the association.

The Chairman of FAWA, represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Oguzorkanu Ofianwali, emphasized the importance of respecting and empowering women. He noted that the current government, led by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has shown a strong commitment to the welfare of women, with several women holding key positions in the administration.

According to him, “Our women, our mother, are the people through whom we come to this world. You know, the woman race is something you must respect.

“Today we have a governor and a wife whose interest is in progress of the woman, the deputy governor of Ebonyi state is a woman, the SSG to the state is a women, men are even scared that government is tailoring towards welfare of the women, were women have a say and a position in government, a position that was earlier reserved For men and now for women. I will continue to celebrate them”.

Other speakers, including Hon. Barr. Elizabeth Ogechi Ogbaga, Mrs. Sarah Emeka Egwu, and Dr. Victoria Nwali expressed their gratitude to the governor and his wife for their support and encouragement of women’s initiatives. They highlighted FAWA’s efforts to build a multipurpose hall and promote women’s development in the state.

The association has been involved in various initiatives, including providing scholarships, attending to women’s problems, and visiting the poor to offer assistance.

The chairman of the FAWA Planning Committee, Dr. Victoria Nwali, called on women to come out in mass and support the association’s efforts to build a multipurpose hall.

She said, “This association has come to stay, it is an annual event, and our own is to join the government to develop the state, we have been doing it, we have given scholarships.

“We have attended to so many women’s problems. We help our members. Visit the poor people’s home and help them. Now, we are here to lay a foundation for our multipurpose hall. So my advice to Abakiliki women is to come out in mass, wherever they are, they should come back.

“Those who have been here, our old members, should come back and join the Present leadership to move this FAWA forward. We equally call our members who have been empowered by the state and federal government to come back and join the Present executive to move FAWA forward for the development of our state, to support our amiable. Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

The event concluded with a call for continued support from government officials, community leaders, and individuals to help FAWA achieve its goals.

The association expressed gratitude to those who have already supported them and prayed for God’s blessings on their benefactors.

The Director General of the Broadcasting Corporation, Comr. Tony Nwizi, represented by Brr. Benedit Onwe expressed his support for FAWA’s activities and pledged to continue encouraging and supporting the association in its efforts to promote the welfare and development of women in Abakaliki.
