Two suspects escape as Police arrest alleged Armed Robber in Igando

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally fabricated pistol alongside assorted charms during a routine patrol operation in the Igando area of Lagos, as part of its ongoing campaign against violent crime across the state.

The arrest was made by vigilant police operatives who, while carrying out routine patrol duties, intercepted a motorcycle carrying three male occupants whose suspicious movements attracted their attention.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspects attempted to flee immediately after spotting the patrol team.

However, one of them, identified as Olajunja Segun Samson, 29, was successfully apprehended, while the two others escaped from the scene, abandoning the motorcycle they were riding.

A thorough search conducted on the arrested suspect and the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms believed to have been in the possession of the suspects.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting investigators, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.

The Command added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ alleged criminal activities and recover any additional weapons or exhibits linked to the gang.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, praised their vigilance, professionalism and prompt response, noting that such proactive policing efforts continue to strengthen security across the state.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in Lagos State. He urged members of the public to remain security conscious and provide timely, credible information that would assist the police in preventing crime and apprehending criminal elements.

The Command further encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and activities through its emergency response lines for immediate police intervention.
