Students urged to embrace transparency at NUASA-LASU leadership workshop

Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association (NUASA), Lagos State University (LASU) chapter, has held a legislative workshop aimed at empowering students with leadership skills and a deeper understanding of transparency and accountability in student governance.

The workshop, themed “Legislation and Leadership: Enhancing Transparency and Accountability in Student Governance,” took place at the Hallowed Chamber of the Student Arcade, LASU, and attracted students from various academic disciplines across the university.

Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Wealth Creation and Employment, Amb. Comr. Tijani Saheed Oluwadare (Seedorf), delivered the keynote address, expressing his delight at engaging with what he described as a vibrant and forward-thinking generation of students.

In his address, Oluwadare shared practical experiences and insights on effective leadership, emphasizing that accountability goes beyond financial management.

According to him, true accountability includes ethical responsibility, open communication and active engagement with the people being served.

He highlighted the strategic position of student leaders, noting that they are not only representatives of their peers but also catalysts for positive change within their institutions and host communities.

He urged students to uphold integrity, fairness and transparency as core values in their leadership journey.

The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to explore the fundamentals of legislative processes, develop leadership competencies and understand the role of good governance in combating corruption and malpractice.

Through interactive sessions, panel discussions and group activities, students were exposed to practical tools for promoting transparency and accountability within student government structures.

Oluwadare commended the leadership of NUASA-LASU for organizing what he described as a timely and impactful programme, with special recognition given to the Chairman of the event, Hon. Oluwole Enoch, for his dedication and commitment.

He expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop would positively influence the students’ personal development and professional aspirations, preparing them to become responsible leaders and change-makers in society.

The legislative workshop concluded on a high note, with participants reaffirming their commitment to ethical leadership, responsible governance and active civic engagement within and beyond the university community.
