Sokoto State Government has donated 10 Hilux vans to support the construction of the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, reaffirming its commitment to the Federal Government’s flagship infrastructure project.
The vehicles were formally received on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, on Wednesday in Sokoto.
The donation is part of the Sokoto State Government’s contribution towards supporting the successful execution of the major highway project, which is expected to improve road connectivity and strengthen economic activities across several parts of the country.
Speaking during the presentation, the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, said the donation fulfilled the commitment previously made by his administration to support the project.
Governor Aliyu described the Sokoto-Badagry Highway as a strategic national infrastructure project with the potential to transform transportation and trade across the country.
According to him, the completion of the highway would enhance connectivity between communities and states, while creating greater opportunities for the movement of people, agricultural produce and goods.
He noted that improved road infrastructure remained critical to economic development, stressing that efficient transportation networks would facilitate trade, attract investment and strengthen economic integration among different parts of the country.
The governor further said the project was not only important to Sokoto State but also represented a major investment in Nigeria’s long-term development, given its potential to link communities and open up new economic opportunities.
He expressed the state government’s readiness to continue supporting initiatives that would contribute to the successful implementation of the project and promote the development of critical infrastructure.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Federal Government, the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, acknowledged the support from the Sokoto State Government.
The donation, he said, demonstrated the importance of collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments in the delivery of major infrastructure projects.
The Sokoto-Badagry Highway is regarded as a major transportation corridor that could significantly improve movement across the country and boost commercial activities along its route.
The Sokoto State Government’s contribution is expected to further strengthen the partnership between the state and the Federal Government in advancing the project.
The initiative also underscores the growing emphasis on cooperation among different levels of government in addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit and accelerating development.
Governor Aliyu reiterated that the Sokoto State Government would continue to support projects capable of improving the lives of citizens, strengthening economic activities and contributing to national development.
He said the state remained committed to working with the Federal Government to ensure that critical infrastructure projects receive the necessary support to achieve their objectives.
