Saraki accuses Akpabio of cheap politics over sexual harassment allegations

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has criticized incumbent Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for allegedly politicizing and trivializing the call for due process in the investigation of allegations raised by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In his Twitter page, a statement signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, the head of his media office in Abuja, urged Akpabio to read his press statement dated March 1st, 2025 very well to understand that there was nowhere he suggested the resignation of the Senate President.

Saraki described Akpabio’s claim that he is being targeted because he is from the Niger Delta region as “cheap politics and trivialising of a serious issue”.

Saraki emphasized that his previous statement on the matter did not call for Akpabio’s resignation, but rather urged him to ensure that the allegations are investigated transparently and openly.

He also pointed out that there are existing processes in the Constitution, laws, and Senate rules that should be followed in carrying out such an investigation.

The former Senate President reiterated that his suggestions are for the benefit of the legislative institution and not driven by ethnic or political considerations.

He urged Akpabio to avoid exploiting ethnic sentiments, political divisions, or regional proclivities, and instead face the reality of the situation and do what is right.
