Ozoro crisis: APC aspirant Orette condemns assault, seeks rule of law enforcement

All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant in Delta South, Dr. Austin Orette, has strongly condemned the alleged assault on women in Oruamudhu community, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, describing the incident as a disturbing manifestation of moral decay and a gross violation of human rights.

Reacting in a statement titled “No to sexual abuse in Delta South Senatorial District,” Orette said the development underscores the urgent need for intensified public enlightenment to eradicate harmful cultural practices and promote respect for human dignity.

According to him, the incident represents “the ascendancy of evil in society” and highlights how much work remains to be done in addressing entrenched practices that undermine the safety and dignity of women.

“It tells us that much still needs to be done to truly educate the people on the need to abolish barbaric culture,” he stated.

Orette expressed concern over the activities of individuals and groups allegedly contributing to the breakdown of social cohesion in Isoko North Local Government Area, warning that such actions threaten peace and stability in the region.

He called on the Delta State Government to take immediate and decisive steps to address the situation, stressing that the protection of citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as women and children, must be treated as a top priority.

“The Delta State Government owes it to the victims to take immediate action,” he said.

The APC chieftain particularly condemned harmful practices that degrade women in public, urging community leaders and stakeholders not to remain silent in the face of such atrocities.

“The community must not turn a blind eye to these acts. Silence only emboldens perpetrators and perpetuates injustice,” he added.

Orette further emphasized the need for fair and unimpeded access to justice for the victims, calling on relevant authorities to ensure thorough investigation and prosecution of all those involved.

“The onus is on the government to strengthen the rule of law and ensure proper investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators,” he noted.

He stressed that delivering justice would serve as a deterrent and send a strong message that such crimes would not be tolerated in any part of the state.

“Delivering justice to victims sends a clear message of zero tolerance for such crimes and helps to stop their recurrence,” he said.

While extending his sympathy to the victims, Orette assured them that their plight would not be ignored, insisting that accountability must prevail.

“These crimes must be punished, and those responsible must be held accountable,” he concluded.

The incident has continued to spark outrage across Delta State, with growing calls from stakeholders and civil society groups for urgent intervention, justice for victims, and stronger safeguards against gender-based violence.
