Ogbunikpa boosts education, water access in Okigwe LGA, praises Governor Uzodimma for support

Saturday, 24th January 2026, marked a historic and unforgettable day for communities in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, as residents gathered to witness the commissioning of critical infrastructural projects facilitated by Rt. Hon. Chief Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (Ochuwara Ehi Zogbuo Agu), the Honourable Member representing Okigwe State Constituency.

The day was filled with excitement, gratitude, and renewed hope as several water projects were officially commissioned alongside the unveiling of a fully reconstructed school block at Urban Model Secondary School, Okigwe.

These interventions, widely hailed as timely and impactful, directly address the pressing needs of the communities: access to clean water and quality education.

The commissioning ceremony, led by Sen. Patrick Ndubueze of Imo North Senatorial District, drew dignitaries and stakeholders from across political, traditional, religious, and social spheres.

Traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, education stakeholders, and the general public were present in large numbers, celebrating what many described as a “new chapter of purposeful representation” in Okigwe.

From dawn, communities buzzed with anticipation, as people gathered to witness firsthand projects that address fundamental societal needs. Cultural performances, songs of praise, and spontaneous expressions of joy reflected the appreciation of residents for the interventions brought by their representative.

The commissioned water projects, spread across various communities in Okigwe LGA, are expected to dramatically improve access to clean and safe drinking water. They will reduce water-related health challenges and ease the daily burden on women and children, who often walk long distances in search of water.

For residents, these projects represent more than infrastructure—they symbolize dignity, improved health, economic relief, and an enhanced quality of life.

At Urban Model Secondary School, the reconstructed classroom block stands as a testament to Rt. Hon. Ogbunikpa’s commitment to education. Equipped with modern, well-ventilated classrooms, upgraded roofing, and standard learning facilities, the new block promises to enhance academic performance, teacher morale, and overall school standards.

Teachers and students expressed profound gratitude, emphasizing the structure’s transformative impact on learning and school life.

In his address, Rt. Hon. Chief Chidiebere Ogbunikpa reiterated his dedication to the development of Okigwe State Constituency, stating that the projects reflect his vision to invest in human capital and essential infrastructure.

“Education remains the backbone of any progressive society, and water is life. You cannot talk about development where children learn in poor conditions or where communities lack access to clean water. These projects are my contribution to building a better future for our people,” he said.

Ogbunikpa emphasized that these interventions are driven by genuine concern for constituents rather than political motives and assured the people that more projects in youth empowerment, healthcare, rural development, skills acquisition, and education support are forthcoming.

He also commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his unwavering support, which he said creates an enabling environment for lawmakers to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy.

“I sincerely thank His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma, for his leadership, guidance, and commitment to grassroots development. His support continues to inspire us to do more for our people,” Ogbunikpa said.

Sen. Patrick Ndubueze also lauded Ogbunikpa for demonstrating “practical leadership and people-oriented representation,” urging other leaders to emulate this model of prioritizing impact over publicity.
