National Union of Market Traders and Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over alleged extortion, intimidation, and abuse of power by Ado Odo/Otta Local Government Revenue Coordinators and other local government revenue coordinators in Nigeria.

According to the union’s National President, Com. High Chief James Chukwuma Ogu, these revenue coordinators, in collaboration with unregistered market revenue contractors and touts, have been threatening market traders, demanding unauthorized fees and levies, and extorting money from their members.

The union is seeking the IGP’s intervention to investigate these allegations, hold the revenue coordinators accountable, provide protection and support to the union’s members, and put an end to the unauthorized collection of fees and levies.

The union also demands transparent accounting, revenue verification, and accountability mechanisms to ensure that revenue collected from market traders is utilized properly.
