MWUN expresses heartfelt condolences to Asu Beks over wife’s demise

President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, along with his union executives, has commiserated with Chief Asu Beks over the demise of his late wife, Mrs. Helen Asu Beks, who passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

According to the Head of Media at MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Asu Beks is a frontline maritime journalist in Nigeria and has worked with various media organizations across the country, including the now-defunct Concord Group of Newspapers, among others.

He is a veteran in the maritime industry and a respected maritime media practitioner of note.

The MWUN President-General, Comrade Bunu, described the death of Mrs. Helen Asu Beks as a significant loss to the veteran media personality, whose contributions to the maritime industry cannot be overemphasized.

He emphasized that Asu Beks remains a friend and brother to the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria and that the loss has affected the entire union.

The maritime labor activist further admonished Asu Beks to take heart during this difficult period, reminding him that life continues and that all shall meet again on the day of rapture.

Comrade Bunu reassured him, saying that nothing on earth lasts forever, not even human life; however, the good news is that we shall meet again in resurrection to be with our Creator.

Comrade Bunu also urged the media veteran to remain strong for the children left behind, assuring him that the union would not abandon him during this critical time.

He reminded Asu Beks that God loves him dearly and that he and the union executives would continue to support him morally, physically, and mentally.

The foremost maritime leader and his executives prayed that Asu Beks and the children of the late Mrs. Helen Asu Beks would find favor in the eyes of Almighty God and that her soul may rest in perfect peace.
