Marwa promises justice, welfare support for officers attacked during raid

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), on Monday visited two officers of the Agency currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital Abuja following injuries sustained during a violent mob attack in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to the Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, the injured officers, Ayegh Dooyun Zachariah and Shehu Jamil Ibrahim, were attacked while participating in a raid on a notorious drug joint in Dawaki on Friday, May 15, 2026. The operation reportedly turned violent after a mob descended on the operatives, leaving the two officers with severe injuries.

During the visit to their hospital bedsides on Monday, May 25, Marwa sympathized with the officers and conveyed the support and solidarity of the entire NDLEA management and personnel.

He assured them that the Agency would take full responsibility for their welfare and treatment, stressing that they would receive the best medical attention until they fully recover.

According to Marwa, the Agency would not relent in ensuring that those responsible for the attack are apprehended and prosecuted.

“The Agency will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for this cowardly attack are arrested and brought to justice. An attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go unpunished,” he stated.

The NDLEA boss commended the injured officers for their bravery, professionalism, and dedication to duty during the high-risk operation, describing their sacrifices in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse as invaluable to national security and public health.

As part of efforts to boost their morale and recognize their heroism, Marwa presented the officers with official Letters of Commendation personally signed by him, alongside other support packages aimed at aiding their recovery.

He also praised the Agency’s medical personnel as well as doctors and caregivers at the National Hospital for their swift intervention and quality medical attention, which he noted had stabilized the injured operatives.

Marwa reiterated the commitment of the NDLEA to sustaining the nationwide fight against drug abuse and trafficking, assuring Nigerians that the Agency remains undeterred by violent resistance from criminal elements.

He emphasized that the NDLEA would continue to dismantle drug networks and sanitize communities across the country in line with its mandate.
