Lagos North Diocese commends Sanwo-Olu on investment in roads, rail, healthcare

Methodist Church Nigeria, Lagos North Diocese, has commended the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for what its described as remarkable achievements in infrastructure development and economic transformation across the State.

The commendation came during the Diocese’s 15th Annual Synod held at the Methodist Cathedral, Agege, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Bishop of Lagos North Diocese, Rt. Rev. Job ‘Gboyega Ohu said Lagos had continued to distinguish itself as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and one of Africa’s most resilient and dynamic economies.

According to the cleric, Lagos has evolved from a modest fishing settlement into a thriving megacity with over 20 million residents, constantly reinventing itself as a hub for commerce, innovation and opportunity.

He noted that under the leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, the state government had continued to implement an ambitious development agenda anchored on the THEMES+ framework covering transportation, health, education, environment, security and economic expansion.

Bishop Ohu stated that the state’s multi-trillion-naira annual budget reflected both ambition and responsibility, stressing that a significant portion of the budget was being channelled into capital projects aimed at driving long-term economic growth and improving the quality of life of residents.

He particularly praised the operational Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line, describing it as a major milestone in urban transportation that is already transforming mobility within the metropolis by providing residents with faster and more reliable means of transportation.

The bishop also highlighted the ongoing Red Line Rail Project, saying it would further ease movement across the state upon completion.

He further commended major road infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Lekki-Epe Expressway with a proposed rail connection to the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Opebi-Mende-Ojota link road, as well as extensive rehabilitation of inner-city roads across Lagos.

According to him, the Lekki Deep Sea Port remains one of the most significant maritime developments in West Africa, capable of boosting trade capacity, attracting foreign investment and positioning Lagos as a major regional logistics hub.

On social infrastructure, Bishop Ohu applauded the state government’s investments in healthcare and education through the construction and upgrading of modern primary, secondary and specialist healthcare facilities, alongside improvements in public schools.

He said the interventions demonstrated that the government’s growth agenda was not only economic but also socially inclusive.

The cleric also commended ministers and members of the Diocese for their steadfast support, commitment and continuous prayers for the growth of the church and the development of the nation.

In his remarks during the launching of the Bishop’s Synod Address, the Chief Launcher and National Head, Rights of Way (ROW), Technical Fiber, FTTH, & Fixed Network, Globacom Limited, Bro. Engr. Oyerogba Olabode expressed gratitude to God for the successful gathering of the Synod.

Speaking on the Synod theme, “The Lord Will Fight for You; You Need Only to Be Still,” taken from Exodus 14:14, Olabode said the message served as a reminder that victory comes not through human strength alone but through faith and trust in God.

He described the Bishop’s Address as more than a report, noting that it represented a spiritual compass that would guide deliberations, inspire the Diocese and shape decisions for the future of the church.

“As we proceed with this Synod, may our discussions be filled with wisdom, unity and grace. May the Holy Spirit lead us into truth, and may all that we do bring glory to God and advancement to His Kingdom,” he said.

He urged members of the church to remain steadfast in faith and move forward with confidence, declaring that God would continue to fight for His people despite prevailing challenges and uncertainties.
