Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road: Minister announces road project to feature innovative designs, climate-resilient features

Federal Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umiah has expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their contributions to the road construction project, emphasizing that it’s not just about building roads but investing in the future.

Speaking at a Stakeholders town hall meeting on Sunday, he commended the contractor’s efficiency, noting that they work in three shifts and can complete one kilometer of concrete pavement daily.

He explained that the project involved building a flyover with a 60-meter span and another with a 41.6-meter span.

The minister highlighted the importance of sustainability, mentioning that the project will incorporate green spaces and potentially earn carbon credits due to reduced emissions.

According to the minister, the road will be designed to withstand climate change, with features such as elevated road levels to mitigate flooding.

” The project includes inducting cable ducts to minimize road cuts for network installations, ensuring faster response times for issue resolution. The state government has allocated land for building rest stops with amenities like snack shops and supermarkets. The project aims to incorporate green spaces and potentially earn carbon credits.

The minister acknowledged challenges, including deviations in the project design and potential disruptions due to train tracks.

Despite these, he assured that the project will be completed, with section two expected to showcase significant progress by December.

The minister’s commitment to monitoring progress was evident in his plan to conduct a review by May 25th to assess achievements.

Overall, the project’s innovative design, sustainable features, and efficient execution underscore the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
