Kebbi Police nab 3 suspected gunrunners, seize fabricated AK-47, 737 rounds of ammunition

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against illicit arms proliferation, the Kebbi State Police Command has arrested three suspected gunrunners and seized a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle along with 737 rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition in Bena and Dolekaina.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Kebbi State Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on the 30th October, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer, Bena, while on joint patrol with the Police Mobile personnel attached to No 36 PMF squadron, Birnin Kebbi, along Bena-Ribah road, reasonably suspected and arrested one Rabi’u Umar,20, of Karen Bana village, Mariga LGA of Niger State, and Nasiru Hussaini, 26, of Doya village, Bauchi State. When they were searched, one fabricated AK-47 rifle and five rounds of 7.62×39 mm live ammunition were found in their possession.
In the same vein, on the 3rd November, 2025, a team of Policemen attached to the Divisional Police headquarters, Dolekaina, while on surveillance patrol at Bakin Mashaya area, Dolekaina, intercepted and apprehended one Lawwali Ibrahim, of Anka town, Anka LGA of Zamfara State, in possession of Seven Hundred and Thirty Two (732) rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having smuggled the exhibits into Nigeria from Mokassa town, Benin Republic, with the intention of delivering them to Anka town.
The two cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for thorough investigation and diligent protection.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, commended the DPOs Bena and Dolekaina for their bravery, intelligence-driven policing and professionalism.
The CP reiterated the Command’s determination in its sustained efforts to fight banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
