Kebbi Police announce weekly shooting exercises, urge public not to panic

Kebbi State Police Command has announced plans to commence a routine range and shooting exercise as part of ongoing efforts to train and retrain its personnel for improved operational efficiency.

In a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the Command disclosed that the exercise will begin on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m.

The training will take place at the Dukku Military Range, located a few kilometres behind Kebbi Radio along the Birnin Kebbi–Kalgo Road.

According to the statement, the exercise is not a one-off activity but will be conducted weekly over the next month, holding every Saturday at the same venue and time.

The initiative, the Command noted, is part of its broader strategy to ensure that officers remain combat-ready, professionally skilled, and capable of responding effectively to security challenges.

The Police Command, however, warned that the public may hear sustained and sporadic gunfire during the training sessions, as live ammunition will be used.

Residents were therefore advised not to panic at the sound of gunshots, emphasizing that the exercise is controlled and strictly for training purposes.

“To avoid unnecessary fear and confusion, members of the public are urged to remain calm upon hearing gunfire within the specified periods,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the Command called on residents, commuters, and other members of the public to steer clear of the training area during the exercise for their safety. It stressed that restricting access to the range during the drills is necessary to prevent accidents and ensure a smooth training process.

The Kebbi State Police Command reassured citizens of its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, noting that such exercises are essential for enhancing the capacity and preparedness of its personnel.

Residents are encouraged to cooperate with security agencies and adhere to the advisory as the Command continues its efforts to strengthen public safety and confidence.
