Kebbi Government, Security Agencies secure release of kidnapped Maga schoolgirls

The students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, who were kidnapped on 17 November 2025, have regained their freedom and have now been reunited with their families after undergoing medical examination.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Kebbi State Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the release was confirmed during a handing-over ceremony held on 25 November 2025 at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

Speaking at the event, the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tunibu, for his swift and decisive action, which he said played a critical role in ensuring the safe return of the students. The governor commended the President’s leadership and commitment to protecting the lives of citizens, especially during such distressing incidents.

Governor Idris also appreciated the efforts of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the various security agencies involved in the rescue operation. He acknowledged their unwavering dedication and teamwork, which ultimately led to the successful recovery of the kidnapped girls.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Ibrahim Haruna Maga expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tunibu, the Kebbi State Governor, security agencies, and both traditional and religious leaders. He thanked them for their prayers, relentless efforts, and continuous support throughout the ordeal, noting that the families would never forget the solidarity shown during their time of fear and uncertainty.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the courage, resilience, and professionalism of the combined security team deployed for the search-and-rescue operation. He also thanked the residents of Kebbi State for providing vital and accurate information that aided the safe recovery of the schoolgirls.

The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain its fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state. He urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and proactive by reporting any suspicious movement to the nearest police station or relevant security agency for immediate action.
