Kano Govt, Dar Al Iman Tours partner on youth empowerment through tourism, sports

In a renewed push to expand youth empowerment initiatives, the Office of the Special Adviser on Youth and Sports Development to the Kano State Governor has opened discussions with private sector stakeholders to harness opportunities in tourism and cultural exchange.

The Personal Assistant to the Special Adviser, Mr. Sani Danja, met with representatives of Dar Al Iman Travel and Tours Limited in Kano to explore collaborative strategies aimed at engaging young people productively through sports and tourism-driven initiatives.

The meeting underscored the growing recognition of tourism as a viable tool for economic diversification and youth inclusion, particularly in Northern Nigeria, where employment opportunities remain limited for a large youth population.

Speaking during the engagement, Mr. Danja reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to building sustainable platforms that empower young people and reduce unemployment.

“We are focused on creating productive avenues for Kano’s youth through strategic partnerships with credible private sector players. Tourism and sports offer immense potential to unlock opportunities, promote cultural identity, and drive economic growth,” he said.

Discussions at the meeting centered on developing programs that combine travel, sports development, and cultural exposure to equip youths with skills, networks, and global perspectives.

A representative of Dar Al Iman Travel and Tours Limited highlighted the untapped potential within the tourism sector, noting that it could serve as a catalyze job creation and increased diaspora engagement.

“Tourism remains an underutilized driver of youth employment and diaspora investment in Northern Nigeria. With the right structure and support, it can significantly contribute to economic development,” the representative stated.

The proposed collaboration is expected to open pathways for youth participation in organized tours, cultural exchange programs, and sports-related travel initiatives, thereby broadening their horizons beyond local opportunities.
