International Women’s Day: YALI Network Lagos to convene young leaders on women empowerment

Young African Leaders Initiative Network (YALI) Network Lagos has announced plans to host a virtual event to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, bringing together young leaders, professionals and advocates to discuss the critical role women play in shaping communities and nations.

The event, scheduled for March 8, 2026, will focus on the theme “Empowered Women, Transformed Nations,” highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment in driving progress across leadership, education, innovation and social development.

Organisers said the virtual gathering aims to provide a platform for dialogue and inspiration, while celebrating the achievements of women and encouraging young people to actively promote gender equality and inclusive leadership across Africa.

The event will feature Adeola Olufunke Akinsulure, a Global Teacher Prize Top 10 Finalist and Fulbright TEA Fellow, who is widely recognised for her work in transformative education and inclusive learning.

She is expected to share insights on the role of education in empowering women and fostering societal transformation.

According to the organisers, the programme is designed to engage participants in meaningful discussions on how empowering women can contribute to sustainable development, stronger institutions and inclusive growth within African communities.

The initiative also seeks to encourage emerging leaders to support policies and initiatives that promote equal opportunities for women in governance, entrepreneurship, education and civic engagement.

Members of the public, youth leaders and advocates for gender equality have been invited to join the conversation virtually as part of the global activities marking International Women’s Day.

The organisers said the event will hold virtually via Zoom, and interested organisations seeking media partnerships, collaborations or further information are encouraged to contact YALI Network Lagos.
