GCON lists rare leadership qualities stand Ebie out

Insists he represents new political order in Ika politics

GCON Media, an Agbor, Delta State-based socio-political pressure group, has described Chairman, Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie,as a beacon of hope and pillar of development greatly loved by God and favored by men.

The group emphasized that Ebie’s outstanding leadership style of not pandering to the primordial and parochial politics and interests places him above other politicians in the Ika Federal Constituency.

Ebie, a former Delta state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, former Secretary to the state Government (SSG) and Co-Convener of Delta Unity Group (DUG), is seen by many in the Federal Constituency as a rallying figure and political leader.

At a recent gathering in Agbor, the group highlighted Ebie’s unmatched transparency, unwavering commitment to responsibilities and strong morals driven by good home training as some of the factors that make the NDDC Governing Board Chairman unique and towering in the Ika nation. The group expressed delight that the people of the federal constituency identify fully with Ebie, given the political, socio-economic and infrastructural development he has brought to them

According to the GCON MEDIA, one thing is certain; right from May 1999, when democracy re-emerged on Nigeria’s political horizon, the Ika nation has always been blessed with political appointments at both State and Federal levels, but the major challenge was that the inherent gains attached to the offices neither reflected nor domesticated in the area.

“Before the coming of Ebie, political positions were largely considered not for the public good but for sectarian gain. This is the major difference between Chiedu Ebie and others; it largely explains why he is presently considered the new political leader of Ika land. He represents the new order in Ika’s political trajectory, changing the narrative.

“He is a technocrat, reformer, well-foresighted and quietly influential, bringing democracy dividends to the good people of Ika nation without discrimination.

“He is not a believer in parochial politics. Ebie is not only widely accepted in both the state and the region but has become a bridge between Ika Federal Constituency and the national levels”, the group said.

Beyond his sterling personal attributes that aided his quality public service delivery at any given position, GCON media believes that Ebie is an embodiment of his family values and virtues, namely transparency, professionalism and achievement of organizational excellence.

GCON MEDIA recalled that his father, late Prof. John C. Ebie, was the pioneer Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin City, Edo State.

“As the pioneer CMD, he navigated the health institution to an enviable world-class health provider. He creatively brought together within the same organization different people with different experiences, assumptions, values, beliefs and habits to their work, and provided direction, protection, orientation, managed conflicts, shaped norms and possessed the emotional capacity to tolerate uncertainty, frustrations and pains, and raised tough questions without getting anxious himself. In recognition of this public leadership provision, the late Prof. Ebie was, on Friday, December 15, 2023, bestowed a posthumous award of excellence by the Association of Resident Doctors, UBTH Chapter, Benin City.

The Group pointed out that Ebie had an uncle, Sir. S. P. O. Fortune Ebie, who functioned as the Chief Executive of Federal Housing Authority (FHA), which planned and executed the building of what is still today the biggest Housing Estate in Nigeria, the FESTAC Housing Estate in Lagos.

On his part, Chiedu Ebie has, together with members of the board and management, proved beyond doubt that they are blessed with wisdom for conceiving fresh beginnings and more focused efforts on the development of the Niger Delta region like never been since the inception of the Commission.

“In addition to living a life of integrity and simplicity, shunning the selfishness that has in the past marred much of such positions, Mr. Chiedu is chairing the board of the Commission with the consciousness that as a leader, he is being watched closely, that people are noting his every move, that his followers are learning a great deal about him and what he really believes in as opposed to what he says’, the Group concluded.
