FRSC Ikotun launches ‘Ember Months Campaign: “Speak up against dangerous driving”

As the Ember months approach, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ikotun Unit has launched a community campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving.

According to the Chief Route Commander, FRSC Ikotun Unit, CRC Emma Ekwo, the campaign, themed “Speak up against dangerous driving: crashes kill more passengers than drivers,” was armed to educate road users about the importance of safe driving practices.

He noted that the Ember months (September to December) are notorious for increased road crashes, resulting in loss of lives and property.

He attributed the trend to the surge in human and vehicular movement during the festive seasons.

In his speech, Area Commander, FRSC, Badagry Division, Deputy Corp Commander (DCC), Sikiru Aduloju, emphasized the need for collective responsibility in ensuring road safety.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we must all speak up against dangerous driving practices that put lives at risk,” he said.

The FRSC lined up a series of activities to mark the Ember months, including public enlightenment campaigns, drama roads, and workshops.

The Corps collaborated with stakeholders, including transport unions, religious organizations, and community leaders, to amplify the message of road safety.

Some of the key messages of the campaign are the importance of wearing seatbelts and ensuring that all passengers are buckled up, the dangers of speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The need for drivers to be cautious and patient, especially during peak travel seasons, and the importance of reporting incidents of reckless driving to the FRSC or other relevant authorities.

The agency urged passengers to speak up against dangerous driving practices, such as speeding or reckless driving, and to report such incidents to the authorities.

They are calling on all road users to join hands in promoting road safety and reducing the risk of road crashes.

By speaking up against dangerous driving practices, we can all contribute to a safer and more responsible driving culture.

Executive Chairman, Igando -Ikotun Local Council Development Area, Com. Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya commended the unit for their efforts and great job in the council.
